I’m a little confused. My tank is 5 months old and coraline has started taking over the back wall. But it’s not what I have normally seen. Instead of the coraline being pink, it’s tan. I have seen a few tiny spots of pink. Will this tan color turn pink?

Pink is usually dying coralline, then it turns white. It will just regrow another layer over the top in time with good conditions.

My calcium is at 380 so nothing is preventing it from growing but one thing may be that I don’t clean the back wall because I haven’t ever seen algae on it since coraline started growing. Should I just brush with a toothbrush every time I clean the glass?

Uh wut… pink/purple is healthy. White with algae growing on it means dead/bleached lol

Shouldn't be necessary.

Personally I would scrape it all off and siphon it out. if that is indeed some stage of Coraline it's interesting that there is zero on the rocks. I dunno.

There is some. On one of my rocks there’s a ton of purple coraline. But on most every rock, it’s dark red, light red, or gray. Here’s a full tank shot

Bottom right rock is the one I was talking about. The white rocks at the top I added about 3 weeks ago because i needed more rock. All the rock is live except for that one and the bottom left piece and and the center right most arch. The bottom right rocks coraline has started to grow a lot but it hasn’t spread to the other rocks and that gray coraline is still on a lot of the rocks

There are other colors of coraline besides the common pink stuff. There is green, purple, red, etc. I haven't seen "tan" before, but maybe it's a shade of green that looks that way due to lighting.

I think it’s actually green coralline, not dead pink. It may look more tan under your lights, but I’m 99% sure it’s green coralline (it may not be coralline, but it’s a green encrusting, calcareous algae, so I call it coralline).

I'd wager the purple takes over eventually, but that would suck if all your rock ends up looking like the back wall...
