In a couple of months, when my moms tank is fully cycled, I wanna restart my normal dt
By that I mean move all coral to her tank for a couple weeks, clean my rock, fully clean sand, get most phosphates out, replace top half inch of sand with regular sand, or maybe just fully replace sand.
The reasoning is because I used to dose and feed(coral) in my 10GAL,!! Yes, “what is that kid doing?” I didn’t know a couple months ago that u shouldn’t do this, but I stopped in early July…
So all my mistakes r bunched up in my sand… and rock of course.
I’m still gonna keep all my rubble rock in my tank tho, I’m just removing my main arch styled rock.
So how does this sound?(I have acros and stuff in the tank rn, don’t rlly feel like killing them.)
Maybe not move all corals like the acros, but the lps and softies yes?

I dont keep corals in my 300 gallon. I got a nasty case of ich that killed a few fish off. I did a full restart on the tank. I drained the whole tank, bleached the rocks, and then re set up the tank and ran it with only RO for a week, then brought the salinity up to hypo level to cycle (this is because of the ich). When it was cycled I moved my fish over and am slowly raising salinity back to normal. The restart worked amazing for me and Im very happy I decided to do it even though it was a PITA. Much healthier and happier tank. Thats how I did mine. Not saying you have to do the full bleaching or anything like that lol but figured I would share how and why I re started my tank. You having corals and stuff, I think you need to ask yourself is it really necessary for your situation to do a full restart and move corals and everything? Just something to consider. Not sure if your corals are dying and thats why you want to restart? But its a huge task to do. No one can really tell you if thats best you have to decide for yourself if thats what you want to do! Hope that helps

It’s cuz the algae is imposing on the coral, and yeah, dying, I’m having to do small wc’s every other day to try and lower the phosphate and whatever is causing this goddang bunch of algae, this tank is killing me and this is what I thought of. I might get somebody to hold some corals for me.

bump, I wanna hear more thoughts
I mean if youre willing to do the work and go through the headache of a restart then do it! But if corals are doing well maybe hold off for a little and observe. I was about to shut my 70 down a while back because it looked awful but I quit messing with it and it fixed itself. My 300 on the other hand was not going to fix itself so I did the restart and Im super glad I did. Just hard to answer cause everyone goes about tank issues different. I just completely shut down my biocube that was a reef but my corals just seemed to die one after the other and I couldnt figure the issue out. So I got frustrated and shut it down and moved all fish to my 300. Lol not sure if I even wanna mess with corals right now
