Testing phosphates while cycling real live rock

Is it needed? I'm picking up some Australian live rock from a local place about an hour from home, last reef tank I used dry rock and tested for phosphates since that was an issue previously.

But if I'm using fresh live rock, is it needed?

Won't know until you try.
The Live rock from LA was squeaky clean when I picked it up recently, but who knows what you get until you test it.

I'm a certified newby, but I used gulfliverock to cycle my new tank.

I did not measure early, and now, with very little feeding, 2 fish, 2 cleaner shrimp and 3 corals, I'm at .72ppm. 6 weeks or so is when the tank was started.

I'll be very curious what your tests show.
