thanks its been a long very slow journey....but getting there.

honestly if I was to go it again I would go with the WB 7225 I think the stand is better and cmes with build in manifold. I still love my tank just saying.
Oh yes for sure! The waterbox peninsula is better in my opinion too

Monday morning cycling report....looks like the ammonia is starting to slowly go down. looks to be around 1.5ish ppm
I used Dr. Tims ammonia and Brightwell start XLM in the past I used and loved fritz turbo start 900 worked really fast for the nano but I would need quite a bit for this tank + over night shipping where start XLM is room temp stable and 250mil bottle was a lot cheaper the all the turbo start I would need.

we shall see. i'll keep you all posted on how the cycle goes.

so I wanted more surface area in the sump than a big pile of rocks so I ordered a gallon of seachem matrix.

tank is cycling along. other than that not much to report.

after a week of cycling with Brightwell start XLM I can say my ammonia is prob. 0 reading .25 with the API test kit as it never reads a true zero. so I dosed 170 drops of Dr. Tims ammonia back in to the tank to bring me back up to 2ppm lest see if it can bring it back to zero with in 24 hrs...

I am in no hurry this build has take for ever and I am taking a quick trip to Hawaii mid April so no life in the tank for another month.

unless I drop in some pods and still on the fence if I want to spend the money on them as them will come in on the frags anyway. IDK hand hurt except the wallet..LOL

more tank news I got my gallon of Seachem matrix in a added after a good rinse in RODI about 1/2 gallon -2L in a a leg of new panty hose to make a BIO media log for the sump. the idea is to be able to grab and more it around easily even a good rise in tank water every few months.

there was some random rock in the buck put a least not 1/4 the way full of dust like I had seen on some amazon reviews so that's good news :)

Here is what I did with the nartix.
We we'll see how that works I might switch it out if I can find a good mesh bag.

decent size but maybe I could have gotten the "pond matrix" for bigger pieces.
20210329_153130.jpg

here is the log a made for the sump.
20210329_154700.jpg

and here is the pics of the rock that you will have to pull out. kinda hard to tell at 1st as the covered on pumice oh I mean matrix dust but once you rinse it its pretty easy to tell. guess thats not to bad for around 2L of the stuff. just got to expect it.

Thanks for this picture. I guess you don't know your own strength! But you've just convinced me to never use a true union ball valve. I have usually used the inline slip or threaded ball valves anyway. My uncle, a few years ago, had that happen to a toilet fill pipe, while he was out of town. The coupler where it goes into the bottom of the toilet bowl, broke just like your flange did. He came home to 2 feet of water in his house.
Finger tight on the true unions valves.

I’ve got 13 on my system and they beat anything else for smoothness, and I’ve never busted one. My father in law did though, cranking it down with an audible grunt .

yiu don’t need to crank them down as much as the box store white unions. Those ones are junk.

Wow, this is quite a journey!

How do you plan on keeping the numerous wrasses from jumping out, Do you planning covering the tank?
