I am almost afraid to start this thread as its been a few yeas in the making now...what a journey

first i little back story. I'll make it quick skip all the details as I dont want to boar you all, lets face it your hear for the pics not an essay on my life the last couple of years..lol

it all started nov. 14th 2018 where I order a red sea 750XXL I was between the 750 and a same size Water box I ended up going with the red sea as WB was on back order for a few months.
got lot of gear the black Friday. thinga are starting to look good for this build.

the tank arrived very quickly from RS here are some pics:

this was not fun getting it in to the house. a little man power for the win:

but we managed to get in in safe and sound

here is what I was planning. note the TV would swing out of the way when not in use.

well after all that the GF and I bought fixer upper. it was suposed to be a investment property about 30 min. from where I live. but my land lord said he was not sure what we wanted to do with the gust house that we where staying in. so into reefing limbo I went not wanting to set up that big tank stock and and get it going nice only to move all the life.

so stayed there for 4 months then we decided to move to the other side of the Tetons the Idaho side where we bought the house. the good news was there is a perfect place for a peninsula tank! something i always loved and wanted.

I put up the 750xxl for sale of course that is when all the treads of the stands not supporting the tank where going on so on. so no takers.
then a few weels later I get a call from a not so local fish store about 8 hours away saying that he has a client down in Dever area that needs a tank ASAP as he busted a seem and has thousands in top end corals. so cant wait for one to be shipped.

so we make a deal the new 750xxl for a new 650 peninsula.yeah I lost a little there but it was a win win.
so he and a buddy drive the 8 hours in the middle of winter get here at 2Am and the 3 of us...yes only 3 load the 750 in the middle of the night in a wyoming blizzard.

talk about a tease having such a nice tank to only let it go...

so you remember that big bump in the floor right where the new tank was gonna go. we had to fix that.
the plan 6-10 bottle nose jacks in the basement slowing lifting the house to level the floor.
yeah that did not work...the house would not move lots of cracking and moaning and groaning.

so we spend the next month or more trying to come at in from the floor side through 3 different types of flooring .

through carpet, padding linoleum and tar...so much work scrapping yup this side of the house was built in the 30s the add on was in the 70s you can see where them meet up.

we then had to replace the floor joist the ones that where there where so crocked it was crazy then came the new sub floor and demo the back 2 bedroom and a bathroom.

IMG_0190.jpg
I did add exter support for the tank some 4x4 post but sometime I think I should have build it to support a 1000 gal system just encase.

remember just how low the ceiling was? I am not a tall guy around 5' 7" and it felt to low there. well that was not gonna fly. so we raised it up as fare as we could.
added some nice beams for looks and structural support of the roof.

time to start framing out the house:
its silly the only thing we kept was the foundation, outer walls and roof. everything else got replaced. I told the GF we should just build new. but NOOOOO she did not want to. + the cost of build ( or remodel for that matter ) is stupid here

once that side of the house - kitchen great room to living room ( where the peninsula is going to go) bathroom and 2 bedrooms was framed out. it was time to run the plumbing and electric then insulate it.

crazy when doing the demo we found R2 in the walls. the is in the Tetons wyo.idaho boarder we get long cold winters up here. that blow my mind. the house is so old there where drafts coming in from everywhere. that had to be fixed so the reef could stay nice and tropical...oh yeah the GF and cat too. lol

I ran a 20A dedicated line to the fish tank. more on that later.

hey thanks for stopping by! yeah it has been a ton of work and $$$ but once to start a reno you might as well do it right the 1st time.

I hope to get the the basement this winter. my plan is there already is a fish room/mech. room and possible bedroom but I want to add a media room with projector and large fish only. the large FOWLR part I have yet to tell the GF about. haha wish me luck!

once the framing and insulation was done it was time to do drywall this took us so much longer that we thought it would. we wanted a smooth finish not level 5 but smooth but around here everyone does the orange peel stuff I hate that.

anyway here are some building it back out pics..

I too moved into a house that was stuck in time. When you walked in you were transported back to the '70s, wood paneling, and burnt orange wallpaper. I too gutted the house down to the studs and rebuilt. Then four kids later had to sell. It looks like you are doing a great build.

thanks man it's been a money pit and taking over a year and a half but we are all most done.
then I can start on the fun stuff, the actual tank build. :D
