True story. This all started back in April of 2018 as a custom glass aquarium build for a client of Reef Aquaria Design. Unfortunately (or fortunately), once the tank was built and delivered, his wife said “NO WAY, it’s too big!”. We built him a smaller aquarium and planned on using the “rejected” aquarium in our showroom once we moved to our new facility. Now that we’ve moved and settled in it’s time for the fun part….

Here’s the breakdown:

  • The 1,650 gallon aquarium consists of 1" laminated glass with polished edges and clear silicone seams.
  • Viewing panels are crystal clear low iron glass for optimum viewing.
  • On the right side an adjacent filtration room encased as part of the full cabinetry.
  • On the left side a connected mangrove estuary.
  • Custom filtration with a proprietary sump design with built in refugium to provide mechanical, biological and chemical filtration.
  • Industrial grade plumbing equipment and fan powered ventilation system for continuous air exchange.
  • Overflows concealed with natural keystone.
  • Stainless steel structural support stand, finished with custom cabinetry.
  • An open sloping rock scape with custom cut Marco rock shelf rock.
  • An endless possibility of amazing corals and marine life!!

The TOYS - ie. equipment list:

Deltec Black Edition 7i 7000L Protein Skimmer

Abyzz A200 pump (for skimmer)

Deltec CRTT 10,000 Calcium Reactor

Deltec VF6000 Fleece Filter

Deltec FR616 Fluidized Media Reactor

12 x Ecotech XR30 Pro LED lights

6 x Ecotech MP60 magnetic powerheads

5 x Ecotech Vectra L2 return pumps through

5 x Sea Swirl wavemakers

Aqualogic Split System 1.5HP Chiller

Aquaultraviolet SL200 UV Sterilizer

Jeff Turner owner of Chemi-pure, strategically designed the layout and filtration on this 2300 gallon total water volume system. He gave special consideration to the filtration room and sump design, built to incorporate some of the best equipment available in the market. We’re ecstatic to be running a Deltec Black edition 7i with the new Abyzz A200 pump, which is likely a first in the USA that we know of!

This mixed reef build will be quite a journey and eventually incorporate a large in-line mangrove estuary!

Join us on our quest as we put together this dream system in sunny South Florida.
