The USA is the best country to be in for reefing with all the latest technologies being developed here like Neptune, Ecotech, etc.

America is the best place to live in the world!! The richest and freest country! We have market access to the best aquarium equipment made from all over the world at the best prices. We have the most reefing shows, conventions, and frag swaps of any country. We have the most intelligent and innovative reefers in the world doing their own DIY and starting their own reef products and livestock selling companies.

Wow.

Today let's have some fun and talk about what the best country to be a reef aquarium hobbyist in is and why!

1. What country do you think is the best country to be a reef aquarium hobbyist in and why?
I think Australia (North Queensland)is as I can get in our boat and drive for half hour to very nice reefs and we have a great selection of marine life
2. If you chose the USA then what state do you think is the best state for reef aquariums and why?

3. Where do you live and how many local hobbyists do you know personally that live around you?

Townsville QLD Australia

Depends. Reef aquaria (at least with stony corals) are illegal in Hawaii without a permit. Moving back to Georgia was a breath of fresh air. No permits required for a reef tank, beautiful corals as inexpensive as $5, shipping of online purchases are reasonable....

NJ is the best place to be a reefer.
You have a lot of LFS that build and maintain tanks.
By my house I believed there is like 15 LFS that
Just focus on salt water tanks.
I have 3 LFS just 20 min from my house. (it use to be 6)
You have a lot of reefers that have fish rooms in
Garages or basement selling home grow frags.
You are also next to two international airports
JFK and Newark that have counter to counter for corals.

you have a very strong reefing community with
NJreefer.org club

you have 3 aquariums Camden/Jenkins/NYC aquarium

We host reefapalooza ny and aquatic Expirience shows every year.

we have great local frag swaps in NY/Connecticut/PA are a short drive away.

we are a coastal state so we are all a short drive away from beach / ocean

I live in Alaska. Alot of great things about living here but our hobby is not one of them. There is only one LFS and their mark up is incredibly high. Even when I show them items that I can buy for cheaper and receive free shipping. Unfortunately the vast majority of live animal sites won't ship to AK or the shipping charge cost more than the animal. I would imagine places like Florida must be amazing.

Doesn’t it have to be Australia? Or Indo? All the coral comes from there and it’s just the stuff they ship us. That must have way more options.
but you rarely find any aquacultured corals or even captive bred fish if you're outside Jakarta, and shipping is ***** expensive. there also aren't any of the big name manufacturers like redsea, waterbox, etc besides aquaone. oh well, we can always just go to the sea and frag corals

Not sure where is best. You make what is best for you where you live.

I live in Las Vegas, and there are a number of LFS around here.

I do not know any reefers personally.
Well now you know me I’m local like you an been reefing for 27 years lol
