Hey lately I have been seeing reef tanks where corals like candy canes and scoly corals where open at day time.

Because I also want this I am planning to buy a coral food that shows more PE in sps and LPS and can ofcourse also be consumed by soft corals and clams.

Here some pictures of what I want to achieve 24/7.
These pictures are from google

IMG_0075.gif.4c4f1d928030d4c48c377542d2f41b27.gif

I want this to be as simple as possible. I want to dose a coral food that

1 does not stink
2 can easily be dosed by a dosing pump
3 does not need to refrigerate or need to be shaken.

I have heard of Easy reef booster and SPS evo but although they work great on sps I do not see my scoly or candy cane opening any time soon.

I have also tried Amin S from fauna Marin. This stuff worked perfectly for all corals but sadly it stinks like hell I couldn't even open te bottle and the whole house stinks. The liquid was also to thick for my dosing pump.

Lastly I have tried acropower but that didn't do anything to my LPs.

I think the product needs to contain fatty acids but I have no idea.

In my country polyp booster from polyplab is discontinued but I have heard that also smells really bad!

Anyone else knows something and has corals open like the pictures.

I do know that if I will daily feed the corals pellets they will also show these signs but I am just to lazy to do that and my tangs keep picking at them when I do it...

They do this because they are hungry
In my reef tank they do it at night or when I feed mysis. They do not eat the mysis itself but the dust that comes of triggers them to open and intake all these amino acids and fatty acids. So I believe they also do this when they smell good nearby. In reefs strains of phytoplankton or chopped up muscle dust may get close to corals and causes them to eat the remains. That's what I've read.

And like I said if I would feed them LPs pellets everyday for weeks. They would already open up the next day before I even fed te coral. So that did work but was alot of work...

SPS like acropora and montipora, LPS like Acans, candy canes, Favia, lobophyllia. I know euphyllia don't really open their mouth but some people say the aminos go through their tentacles so that's fine. Zoas sometimes open their small mouths for food. And that's about all.

It is because naturally they open at night when they feel safer, and they open to feed.

I assure you, all of these corals shown, do eat mysis, and other meaty/pellet/flake coral foods as well. They get little benefit from aminos. If they are opening and you see mouth tentacles it is to physically catch food

I target feed all my corals 2-3x a week. That’s all they need. Overfeeding leads to internal issues (food comes in an out the same place. If food continuously comes in, they do not have time to finish digestive processes, and can not excrete. It takes 1-2 days depending on the coral. Also there are issues with corals over eating and the food physically spoils and rots in the stomach before it gets digested, leading to illness)

Feeding 2x a week, or 3x tops is ideal
They want to eat at night after lights are dim or off
Pumps and flow should be off or greatly reduced

I’ve never been able to get zoa to physically eat

Torch and hammer and frogspawn do have mouths and they will eat

This torch of mine is splitting and both mouths are shown

Some of my zoas open their mouth if I put mysis dust on them. You have very nice corals. But I will use the doser 3x a week because of your info! Still need to find the right food brand for liquids.

Get a plank auto feeder and use their Jerky food

It’s a bit of an…apparatus. It mounts on the tank (or sump) and it has a tube that is the mixing chamber. The freeze dried food is highly nutritious but the problem with freeze dried is…it floats and goes down the overflow. The plank dispensed it into a mixing chamber with a powerhead and stirs the food until it’s ready to sink. It has an adjustable outlet to control how fast it comes out. You position the device so the tube is near a powerhead so when the food comes out, it’s blown around the tank. Fish and corals go nuts for it.

You use a timer to program how long it runs for and how many times a day it dispenses

If you enlarge the blue light pic and look by the right side power head you will see the mixing chamber, the food comes out the bottoms and right into a mp40 and it’s dispersed across the tank

You can mix in sps food and make a dry food slurry that will feed fish + lps (reef jerky) + sps (your choice of product)

Maybe if you did this 3-5x a day for 30-60 seconds you can train them to come out more in the day time

I think you're going to be disappointed in what's available. The only liquid food that I know of that doesn't require refrigeration and can be dosed on a doser without stirring is the EasyReef products (EasySPS, EasyBooster, EasyFarm).

Maybe dried food with AVAST Plank would work.

I see where your going although it looks nice on your tank it would look kinda messy. I am 15 years old and I have alot of school etc. so I want to make it as easy as possible. One bottle one doser and dose it every other day. O have certainly Tried the method you are describing but my laziness will stop me from mixing al those lps and sps foods. Also little to expensive probably. I want a bottle that costs 15-25 euros.

Yeah I know those two but I'll probably buy one of those if nothing else comes to mind... I heard koralen zucht may have some.

Basically need the coral dust from mysis and then in one bottle that doesn't need to refrigerate. That would be the best products ever.
