Beautiful place! I am curious as to how a tank like that will effect the value of the home. I would assume it would go up, but how much?

Thanks.

Large tanks will reduce a homes value generally unless you end up selling to someone who is in the hobby which would be unlikely. Swimming pools generally do the same in our area which suprised me

Yup that is what I was going to say. Most people would consider it a negative, not a positive. When we were shopping for this place, one of the homes we considered had a 900 G fowlr in the kitchen separating the eat in portion. I was intrigued by the presence of the tank, but the house was very expensive due to the are it was located and I could put a large tank in any house.

Ditto for swimming pools, which I also have. It seems like most people around where I live want giant houses that fill like 95% of the lot, leaving very little room for grass. As soon as they are settled, more often than not, they rip out what little grass they have and landscape with interlock or architectural stone.

I love greenspace. My house backs onto a golf course and my biggest concern is getting picked off with an errant golf ball and drowning in the pool!

When the tank was underway, I got a call from Derrick at Miracles to come by to give it a once over and confirm that it was as per the specifications. I stopped by the factory and looked at not only my tank, but lots of thanks that were in the process of being constructed.

At that point, the only change I requested was to cut cord ways into the eurobracing at the overflow end. I had assumed the 3 drilled holes in the far end of the eurobracing were for cords, I would fined out later they were actually for return fittings.

As soon as I asked about getting a hole on each side, a glass tech had the bracing removed within minutes and was in the process of having the cord ways added.

A few days later, while talking to a fellow reefer on the forum, it was suggested to me that at least a couple of cross braces would be a good idea, so I called Derrick and had them add them. Derrick indicated that they were not required, but he would be happy to oblige. I am still not sure that they are needed (or are worthwhile), and later on they proved to be somewhat of an obstacle when I got around to the lighting for this tank.

Holy Smokers that's a long tank ! Very nice. As for property value It would be easy & inexpensive to sell the tank. Get some studs replaced & dry boarded . Your right back where You started
.

Yes, the tank is 10' long. When I was settling on the length, I tried to get as much tank within the outline of the fish room as I could. A 10' tank gives me about 4" of clearance between the overflow box and a bulkhead in the corner of the room that hides some water drains. The bulkhead is both a pain and a blessing. A pain because I could have went longer, and a blessing as I had a plumber tap into the 4" PVC drain to give me a convenient drain right at the end of the tank.

During the design phase, Derrick said a full sheet of glass was just over 10' long (10' 8" I think) and the price would remain the same if I wanted to go up to the full sheet size. Sadly 10' was all I could accommodate.

I agree, if ever I wanted to sell the house, removing the tank and replacing the wall would be a straightforward way of erasing its existence.

I'm sure the drain will be well worth it.

Yes, I am so looking forward to using it. Though I already have my frag tank doing a daily AWC into it already. Having the drain close at hand will allow me to do bulk water changes as well though.

The best part of such a huge tank is that depending on auquascape, you will be able to don snorkel gear and get in it...

I am trying to avoid that as much as possible. With the tank depth being 30", it will be a stretch to reach the bottom without getting overly wet. My last tank was only accessible from the rear, and even though it was only 18" wide, I could not reach the front of the tank while leaning from the back (and it was 26" deep). For this tank, I am planning a removable facade secured with magnets. I also have a 24" walk platform in the works for the rear, and an overhead rail system which will hopefully provide me a way to lie suspended over the tank and work. Hopefully it works as well in practice as it does in my head. We shall see.

These are the photos and vids I took during the tank delivery in the winter of 2017. The weather was nice that day. Perfect day to deliver the tank.

A couple of weeks before the delivery, I was running through ways that would work well to get the tank in the house. I pictured a large dolly, like and all terrain version, that had large fat tires that could spread the load out. Perhaps lower it down the hill using a winch? Every the worrier, I called Derrick at Miracles to pitch my ideas and to see if they had a plan. I went through my ideas and finished off with the possibility of renting a mobile crane to lift the tank over the house and lower it onto the pool surround. He listened politely and when I finished off with the crane, and I asked "Do you think the crane would be needed?", he responded "I certainly hope not, that sounds expensive". He reassured me, telling me not to worry, he had some ideas on how to deal with the snowy slippery hill.

The truck pulled into the driveway carrying both the tank and the stand.

The trip down the hill. The trim that gets ripped off was siliconed back into place later and is only decorative and will be hidden by the facade.

Oh my gosh! Beautiful home, first of all. Plus, one monster of a tank! I would have been close to cardiac arrest watching them drag that thing through the yard on a piece of plastic (with a quarter of the tank not even fitting on it) though. Can't wait to see where this is headed. Following...

Now that is some Yankee enginuity there! I dream of a miracles tank someday.

Lol. Yes they really pulled through. So far my experience with Miracles has been excellent. They are pricey, but for large tanks, they are a great choice.

That’s beautiful.

Wow this is awesome! Following along!

Thanks guys. Hopefully I will not disappoint with the rest of the build. It has been a long time coming. If I can have the aquascaping done and the tank wet by the end of the year, I will be happy. Over the next couple of days I will post some more photos of the rigging I have planned/underway for above the tank for lights, etc. I will also be posting about my flow plans and the pumps I have in stock to accomplish those goals. Then we will get to the lights. After I share my lighting design(s) you will have a better understanding of why I am taking my time with this one, and what happens when I get ahead of myself.

In a couple of days I am expecting to receive a part for the tank that I have been looking forward to receiving for quite awhile. I will not let the cat out of the bag just yet, but it has something to do with the tank's name. That is all I am going to say. ;)

Following this one! Realizing people are in different parts of the world as we are gearing for mid 80s F the next few days and you have snow on the ground.

Lol, no snow here yet. Those photos are from Feb 2017 when the tank was delivered. As I said, a bit of procrastination going on, as well as taking my time with this one.

We are probably 6 weeks away from when snow becomes a real possibility in my locale.

Good luck with this awesome looking build! I have toyed with the idea of converting a bedroom into a fish room in our home as well. The wife doesn't seem entirely against it, so maybe there's a chance!

Thanks spyder813. Hopefully I don't disappoint!

Getting permission is half the battle. Who am I kidding, that is the whole battle!

THIS IS AMAZING!!! Talk about house/ fish goals. Definitely following!!!

LOL. Thanks Kryssie. I am going to be retiring at the end of the year, and I am hoping this tank (and the 2 others I have planned) will keep me so busy that I don't become too bored.
