As phosphate and nitrate level control is carbon based and dosed accordingly the nitrate levels, DSR can not be considered to be coral and system safe. High nitrate levels can not be reduced at low phosphate levels without increasing the risk for phosphorus starvation. Dosing organic carbon based on the nitrate level removes autotrophic carrying capacity and it has been proven to harm carols as dosing organic carbon based on the nitrate level does not prevent overdosing. Once the systems carrying capacity is mainly based on heterotrophic growth, growth rates must be maintained to support the bio-load as not sufficient autotrophic carrying capacity may be present. For reinstalling the autotrophic carrying capacity ( nitrification) the system must be recycled and reconditioned wich is not easy once the system is matured. This means, once using DSR, one has to continue to use it. Or any other organic carbon based (reef safe?) product. ref: https://www.baharini.eu/baharini/doku.php?id=nl:makazi:het_water:filtratie:vodka
So that's why we have a fullDSR program, including PO4+ dosing to get rid of imbalances http://www.DSRreefing.com/supplements/#

The DSR powerfilter (combined with the proteinskimmer) are a great way to export surpluses of bacteria and detritus.
You get full control , you only need to learn how, by being openmindend.

Don't judge before you know all the facts.

If you get these results with so little effort, why would you ever want to go back to anything less.
It's all about reading into the system which have already proven it selves on a large platform.
Theory is fine, but the results is what really counts

I haven’t looked at what the powerfilter looks like. Is it something like this product that attaches to a pump.

The thin menbrane will be clogged within hours

#DSRpowerfilter
Over the years, various types of mechanical filtering have been tested:
filterwool in the sump
filterwool in a separate compartments filterwool wrapped on flow pumps
sponge/filterwool combinations from coarse to fine compartments
filterbags with or without filterwool.
automated fleece filters. Everything has been removed and the basic powerfilter still works best.
A strong pump with a perforated spool and 3 layers of cotton wool, you do not need more.
Mounting the PF in the display is more efficient, but placing is in the sump will do just fine for most cases.
This is an essential part to get the most out of the DSR system. Deviations on this part will also produce deviating results.

@glennf you seem to be actively posting in this thread and not the other one devoted to this. I've posted a couple of unanswered questions about the ez dosing trace elements and how switching into and out of the DSR method affects the nitrifying bacteria. Just wondering if you could give a little more detail about both:
Hmm.... i seem to get lost in all he topics.
Working on the small mobile screen isn't helpfull either

@Deltec USA any plans to import the rest of the dsr chemicals? I am just starting the EZ system and in my research it seems there are many cases where not having availability of many of the other full dsr chemicals severely limits your ability to deal with unusual tank parameters that the EZ system does not work well with. For example.. if you have high nitrates but low phosphate, you need to dose CarbonVS, not EZ-Carbon, and to dose EZ-Carbon would introduce other problems due to bottoming out on phosphate. There are a few other examples I've come across where availability of the full DSR product list is almost necessary.

I realize you are probably dipping your toes into importing these chemicals to see what market demand there is for it... but if someone like me is going to commit to this system, it would give a little more confidence that these extended system products will eventually be imported as well.

For the time being we are only carrying the EZ-DSR line in house but we are able to bring in the full DSR additive line if you were interested.

I do not currently need any of them but it is encouraging that if specific items were needed to combat unique issues, you are open to sourcing those items for US customers! I'll be starting my transition to EZ-DSR tomorrow.

One and a half weeks into dsr ez and just got my jebao doser auto dosing buffer and carbon!

Currently stable nutrients at D9 holding there to see if they will slowly creep down towards my target.

Drilled holes in the screw caps to fit acrylic tubing to dose straight from bottle. Acrylic tubing connected to santoprene tubing using John guest quick connects.

Interested in starting the system. Been reading the post and the website. Can this be done on a barebottom tank? The guide on the website mentions a sand bed. I run bare bottom to get maximum flow for my SPS.
Thanks

I'm just setting up a 48"x24x20" tall acrylic ezdsr system - received $400 of all four liquids from Deltec and plan also to run it exactly per specs with exception of BB in main display and some reef sand in a bucket in the sump instead
