Ok some poor photos but starting to stock.

I might try to talk him into re-scaping the rock. But not my show anymore.

This thread is great! I rescued an EVO V that someone was literally about to trash, and have been working over the past 7ish weeks to get it in better shape- and this is my first foray into saltwater!

I am based in Minnesota, and the tank currently resides in my work from home space which is basically a heated garage/shed type space. It has heat and is insulated, but can get as low as 60 degrees ambient inside during the winter. With that in mind I am hoping to upgrade my heater before the snow flies. I am currently using a 50w aqueon. I just purchased the inkbird. It sounds like you did a heater swap- what heater did you end up using? I was having a bit of a hard time finding something that would fit in the back and was leaning towards just putting an aqueon 100w back there?

This was a great read and I will be following along

Ended up with a hydor. It fits juuuuust perfectly above the return pump. I really don't want anything in the display and I'm trying to keep everything streamlined.

I don't know if you're going to find a 100watt that will fit back there. Maybe a titanium one since you're gonna have the ink bird.

LIGHTING UPGRADE COMING SOON!!!

I'm planning on replacing the stock power supply with this one from meanwell. I'm really really trying to keep the super compact and streamlined approach.

I'm aware there is "better lighting" out there but being able to have a super low profile light with very little to no light spill is crucial to this build.

Happy I found this thread. Been slowly gathering supplies to start a fluval V.
did you 3D print the filter chamber cap yourself?
a little sad the tank is no longer in your procession I enjoy this thread
I look forward to seeing future progress

So excited for this light. The current orbit one was ok but the color pop wasn't there. The new gen one requires a large power block and the a huge (relative to tank size) power manifold. It would never work with this super compact concept.

The Fluval Marine Nano however comes with a small wall wort instead of a desk top power supply; and from reading reviews s way better color spectrum and very programmable.

For anyone wondering the orbit technically and OK light but the colors just aren't what I was hoping for and there's more wiring than expected. It would, I imagine, make a really good uncomplicated single light option for a longer tank with just softies. But it was returned to whence it came (Amazon)

New light! And stock.

Will have to help come up with a new bracket.

But for what it is the spread is great on a tank this small with the light very close to the surface. It's low profile with a small power supply and the colors are very tunable.

Little bit of a cyano issue while working on dialing in the nutrients with all the new corals but doing well otherwise. Clowns are learning to host while awaiting a bigger display.

Ignore the in display heater, dude who has the tank keeps his house at 67 at night. Lowest at my place was 73. So it's gonna need a 50w instead of the 25w.

Use some probiotics (microbacter 7) and clean sand to avoid persistent cyano issues. Otherwise it will be on and off for the first year,

Chemiclean treatment worked without any ill effects for the residents. Waiting on updated

Sand is getting vacuumed roughly every couple of weeks. Haven't been dosing probiotics tho. This is the first time seeing a cyano bloom in this tank.
