Hi on the lift actuators what stroke height are those ? 30 inch ?

Also where did you get the bearing slides if you don't mind me asking?
Welcome aboard, Heathen! Yup, 30 inch. The slides were ordered from Amazon.

Do you happen to know the length slides you bought? Your lift design is awesome, love the YouTube video also
Thanks for that! If memory serves, they were the 40" flavor of these:

Greetings, Heathens!

I wasn't happy with the lighting spectrum after swapping out the actinic and Fiji purple from the T5 array. I felt that, with all blue+ bulbs, a lot of the coral colors got washed out and didn't pop.

To help better compliment the new T5 spectrum, I adjusted the K7s a bit:

I've never been a big fan of windex tanks, but find the look acceptable for sunset over the reef. Here is the result of the LED changes as the day draws to a close:

I still have some more playing around to do with the K7 settings while the T5s are on, but that's a task for tomorrow. In the mean time, Johann approves:

What's everyone getting into this evening?

Ugh, amirite?! Now, when I engineered this contraption, I knew that it would eventually fail. Everything does, at some point or another, and as we all know, it never happens at an ideal time. Dang you, Murphy!!! I just didn't think that it would be this soon, so I was disappointed, to say the least. Now, while I didn't take into account salt creep leading to the failure of the linear actuators, I did, as stated, figure on it failing. So, when mounting the canopy supports to the struts, I ensured that I would be able to have access to the bolts from under the lid. Other than the weight, it was relatively easy to move. Thankfully, I was able to, once again, enlist the aid of some of my buddies to give me a hand. The canopy now sits atop the rim of the tank, as I am still using the lighting for the system. All of that is being replaced though in the coming weeks with a hybrid LED / T5 array that I will suspend from the ceiling.

Now, if I had to do it all over again, knowing what I know now, would I? Absolutely. That is a resounding, "yes" with one caveat, however. I would figure out a way to engineer some sort of shield to protect the actuators from salt creep coming from the open back of the stand below. Would it work? Dunno, but given that this failed after only two years, it certainly wouldn't hurt. lol
Would it of helped to have the back of the stand closed ? To avoid the salt creep issue

Likely, but closing it off wasn't something that occurred to me at the time because of the complicated plumbing and wiring.

Night out on the town! By which I mean I get to lose brownie points going into the office at night to do tank maintenance.

1. Install the Noops on the left and right of the tank.

2. Reset the ATO. Make it actually work this time.

3. Move remaining coral/RFAs from 40 to 83. Frag on the way.

4. Rearrange corals in the 83 according to the ineffable plan!

That 40 aio is getting hocked. Once I get a handle on this 83, I'll probably get the itch again and start looking locally for another tank!

Wine. Family meeting. Ice cream. Bed. I pretended to be 20 again last night and went to bed around midnight, so today has been rough.
I didn't get home from work until 2am Wednesday morning. Had an eye appt at 9am. Yesterday kicked my a**

Call me crazy, but I don't think an eye doctor should have been poking around down there.

Good morning, Heathens and happy Thursday!

The new clam arrived yesterday. Please tell me on what planet this specimen:

Looks like this photo:

There is no lighting spectrum in the world that will account for that difference. Trust me- I played with my lighting for hours yesterday, as you saw in my previous post.

Salty Undergroumd is now taking a page out of AquaSD's play book.

You are 3rd on the list. Since I'm a noob at shipping, I'm going to wait until April so that it warms up a bit. First in the chute is @Zach B who had a really bad car accident, and while rehabilitating had a complete tank crash. He lost everything but a few fish. I'm gonna start a coral-a-thon or something for him (I didn't forget about you, buddy!). Then @Mschmidt so we can see how many acros he can kill in his new tank. Last, but not least, the goodies I've been holding for you until I got comfortable shipping.
Can I get in on that list? Just had a whole tank crash from my stupidity after joining the bc grow out in may...
