Photo update. I'm having some new tank algae issues. Will be adding some more clean up crew this weekend, looking for some blue legs and some nassurius snails. Anything "stingy" kinda scares me. However overall I think things are going pretty well. PH seems high, maybe the probe? but it is only a month or so old. PH high of 8.5 and almost 8.6 one day. Temp 78.5 SG 1.026 Testing zero nitrates with NYOS kit I'm starting to see a few good things: Some worms, tiny starfish, bristle stars, a few pods here and there. Finally making my own water now with Melevs Reef boosted RODI and just Reef Crystals. Trying out a Eheim feeder set at smallest amount of pellets twice before I get home from work. I had to try a few different brands to find pellets that actually sink. Hikari for the win and my blenny loves them. A 10 gallon tank with black ABS top found a job as top off tank on top of a retired end table.

So well, while waiting to find out if I win the $20,000 dream tank I may as well give a quick update:

I really appreciate no one giving me a hard time for bringing home two BTA in a tank less than two months old. One of them has pretty much been in the same spot since I put it in the tank. The other one has been walking all over the place and stressing me out that it is going to go up the glass into the Jebao pump. Last few days it finally has settled in front and center and I hope it stays there. So today I decided to feed both of them a small 1/2" chunk of shrimp. And yes, I have a MP10QD on order with extra foam covers. Maybe I should do something in the meantime... I just don't know what I can use to cover the pump and the new one should be here nay day.

Ordered then waited for a MP10QD to finally arrive... installed it only to find that it rattles and vibrates so bad it sounds like it is going to fly apart in my tank. I read a bad review here and there so I was a little concerned. but I went for it anyhow. When you spend so much more than your average pump, this shouldn't happen. I'm so disappointed, words fail me.

Is this a new one or a used one? If it's new, I'd be on the phone with whomever I bought it from seeing what they could do for me.

Doesn't seem right to spend that kind of money on something, just to have it totally take a dump....

brand new out of the box. Called BRS and they advised a ticket with Ecotech is usually the fastest to resolve. I'm sure it will get fixed, but dang my luck...

spending that much on a powerhead is just not for me. tank is still looking good though! My limit is around $80-100 for a single unit that moves water. Yah i would rather buy 2-3 jebao over 6-10 years than 1 MP whatever haha

Check your alignment? My MP40 rattled a lot if the wet-side wasn’t seated exactly right...

So I am feeling bad. I lost a nice BTA and a peppermint shrimp while I was on Thanksgiving vacation. Looks like the little Yuma mushrooms are not going to make it as well. I don't know what happened. Unless maybe a spike in Nitrate due to the fact I left my filter socks in the sump for over about 8 days. I found the shrimp in one of the socks. Possible that it died from starvation as all of the aptasia is gone? No trace of the anemone at all. would have expected it to be all mush in the sponge cover of the wavemaker. I have no idea what happened to it. Funny thing, is it was the healthier looking of the two that I had. sigh. I took all my rock apart looking for it. It's gone. :( The rest of the tank looks OK.

I set up a quick mini carbon reactor for now, it's all I have time to do. I will try to get a big water change done this week. The dang MP10QD still makes noise and very unhappy with that. Just really feeling a low set back right now. ;Sour

pic of the mini carbon reactor. I just set it on the filter sock inlet plates

Sorry to read about your losses. I would bet the Peppermint Shrimp went after the BTA and the mushroom.

4 month update: (for my one or two followers)

I'm over the whole Ecotech "NOT quiet" drive issue. Don't notice it when turned below 1/2 way now so I guess I will just live with it.

The tank is very LOW maintenance. I clean the skimmer when it starts to fill up 1/3 of the way and look nasty, once every 1-2 weeks. I do a 15 gallon water change when I can, maybe 1-2 times a month. clean the glass every few days or so. I have run carbon twice now. I feed pellets on the auto feeder and then drop in some frozen once every day or so. 2 clowns were added, a springari damsel, and the blenny makes 4 fish total. When I find a nice leather I will buy one. Lately, just adding a few zoas and shroom frags when I see something nice for cheap. Such an easy tank. I decided the plexi top blocked too much light so I made a DIY screen top.

Good observations: tons of brittle stars everywhere. legs coming out from every nook and cranny. tiny little baby snails, worms, pods everywhere. The clowns look so much better after two weeks in my tank. a small bite mark in tail of the female healed right up. they seem very happy. orange yuma has two split off babies

Bad observations: green bubble algae. not going to freak out over it. I hired on a couple of emerald crabs. will see how it goes. Also a little of some other macro algae kinda looks like bryopsis  hope not.

and... the MIA BTA were found in my sump. I cant believe they are still (alive?) Apparently they took a trip through my drain and I found the foot of each in my sump. I put them back in the display, and they still have a grasp onto the rocks. It doesn't look good, but maybe they will come back...

Still trying to get good pictures. the clowns swim so fast, its impossible.
