Not to bother your build thread.. ( and by the way it looks awesome!) Could you share your prometheus.yml file... I am a hack at best and have it up and running and can play with "data that it points too" but for the life of me I cant figure out how to connect it to ".../x/metrics".. we can take it over to the Reef-pi forum as well.

Sorry to hi-jink.
sure, you can configure prometheus to scrape the reef-pi metrics like this:

Code:
global:
scrape_interval: 15s # Set the scrape interval to every 15 seconds. Default is every 1 minute.
evaluation_interval: 15s # Evaluate rules every 15 seconds. The default is every 1 minute.
scrape_configs:
  - job_name: 'reefer-300xl-app'
    metrics_path: '/x/metrics'
    static_configs:
    - targets: ['<IP of reef-pi server>']

Thanks.. got it working the other day.

My issue was the idiot behind the keyboard...

Loving playing with reef-pi.. thanks for all you do.

Long due update . Lot has happened since Jan. I had some major issues during aquashella visit. Skimmer overflow .. leading to few acro loss . Lost a few fishes (anthias ) not sure due to fighting or some other issues . But things are getting better otherwise.

I’m doing tropic marine all for reef through ato . No additional dosing till now . Keeping alk at 7.8-8.1. I intend to ramp it up to 9 over the course of few months. Also more fish … not sure which one though . Definitely a wrasse , now that I have then net in place

How do you manage it?
its kinda out of real estate in that island. theres no place to grow, the rainbow acan (acanthastrea echinata) is pretty potent and stings the gsp all the time. Also, i wont call it secured yet, you never know when it will break free :)

things are spiking ok. Algae is growing faster than the corals. Skimmer is definitely not performing as expected. I dial it for a certain consistency of skimmate, but the filter water change schedule, combined with regular cleaning requirements makes it very happy n consistent. I am still learning to tune it. The algae problem is one side effect of this. I am reconsidering the power head location as well. I knew it might not do the job , when mounted on the back wall, now i know the detritus accumulation on the rocks due to absence of direct flow.

Other than this , alk level are holding steady at 8.2-8.4 with tropic marine all for reef through ato. I am thinking of a dedicated doser soonish.
Here is how the milli looks now

Some updates . Tank is humming along . Corals are growing , and so is GHA.
here’s latest fts
93104A85-4181-479A-9DFD-ACC960F7A823.jpeg

I recently added a reef mat . Very pleased with it. Skimmer or filter socks was not a good experience for me. I think this will help stabilize the tank. I also moved all for reef to a dedicate dosing regiment (using timers in reef-pi ) , previously it was through ato. This should help stabilize Alk (right now it’s hovering around 8.2 )
Here are the state of corals

Thinking of not changing anything for some time . I have to come up with some plan to attack aiptasia and slowly cover all rock surface with corals. Alk is holding steady with all for reef dosing now on timers .
I’m very pleased with the roller mat. It’s working like a champ. I’m still using the skimmer , we’ll see after few months if I have Low nitrate or phosphate issues , if not I’ll continue using skimmer .

Tank is humming along. Other than growing aiptasia and algae I have no complain. I know how I’ll deal with both. Algae should be easy , I just have to be patient and keep up with the chores. As corals grow out and tank stabilizes, things will settle in.
for aiptasia , my current plan is to introduce a file fish . I already got one couple of weeks back , and it has cleaned up the nano tank (very light infestation ). I’m just being careful about the lps and other corals before introducing the file fish in this tank .
Here is the current fts (orange filter on )

Tank is holding steady , here is an FTS

alk consumption is growing steadily . Adjusting all for reef dosing regimen accordingly . Sps are growing , but slow I think , but not sure . These journal logs should help with that .
Took some top down shots during water change . Strawberry shortcake

this is `Joker` from battle corals. It has grown barely, i believe it needs strong light. I was foolish to glue a frag of forest fire very close by, that one grew quickly and later i was worried it might kill the joker. Thankfully it seems the joker is wining over forest fire.

myagi tort. cant tell it has grown or not , have to check this thread back and forth to understand if it has grown at all . definitely not growing at a rate as it was 4 months back,

milipora, fragged once already, and intend to frag it again. Idea is to make it arch laterally by fragging, while i reuse the frags to propagate them in near by places
EA2DB889-6B2D-4C76-BB07-C968CFCA91EF.jpeg

Theres still plenty of gha and turf algae. I mechanically remove them during every water change (every 2-3 weeks now). The growth rate was rather high few months back. On retrospect i had run kessil pretty high and pretty white for a new tank. Well, hind sight is 20/20. Couple of months back i did a round of reef flux, followed by lowering kessil intensity as well as color (blue). Corals were in shock in the first week, but after two months, its obvious it made an impact. GHA growth is at check, turf alage grows but managable. Reef mat 500 also made a big difference i believe. I also change all for reef dosing from ato to dedicated doser.

Too many changes i did in one go. I dont know if it was wrong step. There will be only that many times a year i;ll make changes, and observe them for months, and in the first two years i want to adapt fast... and settle on a long term strategy after 3-4 years (unless i get a bigger tank :) )

Next few months goal is to focus on the corals health a bit more. While sps are growing (not rapidly, but not in bad shape as well), my hammer and elegance is in real bad shape. Some due to location, and a lot due to the clown using them as anemone. Not sure how i'll approach this .. but i am thinking

During yesterday's water change i finally took a stab at the aiptasia issue. I injected high concentration of NAOH solution (thanks you evan from reefbuilders for the youtube video) to all the visible aiptasia i could spot. I am sure there are many left, and I'll get back to those again.
thats all for this update :)

Close up of myagi tort . It’s bit brighter in color now. I think this is due to a combo of temp fluctuation and poor water quality (not keeping up with weekly water change ). I think I changed water almost 3 weeks back :-(

this rainbow monti had a sever nudibranch infestation. You can notice in the lost surface area. After some turkey baster based manual cleaning and a wrasse introduction , I think the infection is in check. At least I don’t see any nudibranch during day time . Tissue loss seems to be frozen as well. Let hope it recovers quickly

Things are holding ok. Had a weird issue of one of the heater malfunctioning , leading to systemic temperature (as low as 74F) fluctuation for several days . Reef-pi was alerting as expected , but since I was busy it took some time to get this sorted. After some tinkering it turns out to be a calcium deposits on the heater leading to wrong temperature sensor (internal to the heater) . After cleaning the heater thoroughly and getting rid of the plastic jacket , it was fine.

I have ordered couple of more heaters , better safe than sorry. Looking at the graph , clearly I should have responded early .

My rainbow acan echinata finally stung the micromussa lord, . I was hoping I’ll have some time . Anyhow, the acan lord lost a few heads . I went ahead and broke down that piece and separated out the rainbow acan . Current FTS

I have glued the acan lord in middle of the left island, I felt it’s bit high, but I think this place will slowly more shade due to the acros. You can notice the lost heads

Got the fraghouse corals glued. I took some top down shots (with orange filter). Documenting them here to track how many I can keep alive and if so , their growth rate. I have tougher time with more demanding acros ( water chemistry is not as pristine , I broadcast feed and don’t have refugium ). I have already lost two of the frags. One of them was dead on arrival , while the other withered away last night (rtn). I have the names of each of these, but can’t recall which one is which. Will see which ones survive and learn their names on the way

here are the frags

As you can see , all the frags are pretty chunky. They came in very healthy condition. My tank water quality is not so good, and algae is also there on the rock. You can notice the cyano on top of algae wherever corals are taking back real estate. This is my personal strategy for algae control , do water change till corals grows , tank matures and algae has no real estate. Once that’s done , bring back white light and less water change. Till then more rigorous water change and blue heavy photoperiod.

Thinking of getting rid of skimmer in lieu of a refugium. Not sure if it worth as chaeto growing is not always easy . But skimmer is constant maintenance , risk of over flow. ..

the acan lord is doing better after breaking off from the original island . The two lost heads (from the sting of rainbow echinata ) has not recovered yet. I was worried about the height & light exposure , but I think it can handle those . The polys look healthy and fluffy
