My First Saltwater Tank

It all started for me on August 26/2022, I decided I was gonna make the leap into the saltwater side of fish keeping. Keeping freshwater fish has been a huge passion of mine and slowly more and more saltwater was taking up my ideas and my thoughts .. So I decided it was time to start actively looking for a setup and doing a TON of research on R2R and other platforms . I went into one of my LFS and started chatting with the owners of the store and that just intrigued me more , as they were showing me videos of a bamboo shark they hatched out and what not so after talking with them I decided it was best to go with a bigger tank as it give me more options on livestock and whatnot.

Details on the tank I ended up picking up for my first saltwater setup, it is a 5 Foot 120Gal rectangle tank , It was a 700$ deal I found and it came with a stand , a sump, heaters , protein skimmer , refractometer and much more little goodies .

After that initial payment for the equipment I quickly learned that all the extra stuff I needed to actually setup the tank and mix water etc was gonna be a good penny but I wasn’t being stopped now and moved forward with the setup!

All that being said any posts about the tank here on out will be updates and pictures the attached picture is the tank in its current state , Started my cycle August 28/2022.

UPDATE : September 08/2022

I was in need of a solution as to not have any expensive fish jump onto the floor for fun so I made up these screen lids !

Very nice. I like your aquascape - much better than mine lol. I have a new 180 that looks similar to yours. Mine was initially used as a freshwater tank so I have yet to get some better lighting.

Following along!

Nice deal! I got my tank/combo scratched up and needed some refurbishing but a good deal at $100. Wish it came with sump but two canister filters is fine for now. 0CD570DE-C930-4028-9579-0F715A4DA3C4.jpeg
Looking forward to seeing what your tank becomes.

I had the opposite experience, was looking for a 125 freshwater tank but couldn’t pass on this deal. Just wanted a 40 gallon reef tank lol.
