I'm a softie for softies. Admittedly, I have screwed up more coral than I have thrived. That is my hope with the new build. Overall, I have come to accept that at heart my favorite coral were my GSP's, kenyan trees and mushrooms. Once the new build is set, my goal will be xenias, shrooms, GSPs and whatever I can afford that makes me smile. I'm not trying to impress anyone but me. We plan to build in an area in the back for colorful macroalgae, too. If it moves, it's moving.

I like soft coral dominated tanks so much better than sticks. Even when I dive the soft corals fascinate me so much more, not only by their color, but by the movement.
If you dive you will know that color in the sea isn't that important because after about 25 or so feet everything is blue and SPS resembles rocks.

You can see here in this shot I took in Bora Bora, it looks kind of blah.

Same place using a flash. But it is not natural.

I I have mostly LPS and my favorites were always gorgonioans. I realize they are Sissy corals and grow like weeds but I like them. I have a bunch of SPS that grow fine but they bore me, like tangs as just to common and they do nothing. IMO of course I know a lot of people love them.
Here the blue lights were out on the right side of the tank. I replaced them since then

If you have the resources having three tanks makes sense on some level; an SPS reef, an LPS reef, and a soft coral reef.

After 16 years in the hobby I started a 20L soft nano. It requires very little and draws the eye with it’s swaying movement. My other two tanks are BB so having a tank with sand creates another dimension of diversity.

Sticks are great but there is still something to be said for softy/anemone tanks that will get your weak stomached friends to firehouse their guts via seasickness while sitting on dry land!;Hilarious

1. Do you think soft coral dominated reefs are underrated and why?
Softy tanks are ok, but they are not as eye pleasing as sps or lps tanks. I feel that it is good for beginners since softies are easy to care for.

2. How many of you have a soft coral dominated reef tank now?
Just started a new tank. Only softy I plan on having is a toadstool and some GSP I brought over from my old tank.

What am I really to say, it depends on the persons coral options. I do not have to live with their tank.

I would not call an anemonie tank a softy tank. I love my nems, but they are definitely inverts and not corals.. lol

Center piece of my tank is a softy!!! Love me some soft corals for sure!! Man those firework clove polyps are absolutely stunning also!!! I am a sucker for LPS though! Underrated is in the eye of the beholder. I say keep what you like and don’t follow the trends. That’s what I do:D

I love softies and my current nano is soft coral dominant. I do enjoy how easy it is to care for instead of stressing about it every moment of the day lol. I enjoy a more natural looking tank over a tank with heavy blues and crazy colors.

LOL, I like them the best and my tank is full of them, I said that because they are the easiest to grow. :D
