Hi

i think i have made my first, won't be my last I'm sure, mistake.

I went to the LFR where I bought my tank and got enough RO water, salt and a large majority of Live rock. When I got home I had to stop working on the tank and go to work! (not planned.)

not knowing any better I put the rock into the tank and then added the RO water but NO salt, so think i may have killed my live rock.

When i got back from work it was about 6 hours later!

I then arranged the rock added the rest of the water and then the salt, my LFR had said to add the salt to the tank in one go like that as I was starting the tank.

since then I have added some more live rock to tidy the look of the tank up.

the tank has a sump with a protein skimmer in it, running.

so long way round, do I now have dead rock? if so is it just a case of waiting longer for it to re-establish or are there other things I should be doing?

thanks

Jase

You probably just made your cycle happen faster this way. You will have more die off on the rocks than previously anticipated. But no real worries.

I wouldn't stress. Just get a ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate test kits. Once you have nitrates above 10 and ammonia & nitrite at zero your good. Be patient only bad things happen fast!
