I am in the process of building now, and went live-edge. I didn’t select a tree though! If it’s anything like his sumps this is gonna be nuts! following

I made a Walnut table for our dinning room and I wish I done epoxy instead a matte polyurethane.
That table looks awesome!

I was able to process the wood for the top of the tank Stand. It will be 1.5" solid cherry. (I know most of the wood will be covered by the tank) I cut the rough wood down to 6.5" squared slabs. I used my Festool Domino tool and added five 100mm dominos at each glue joint and clamped it all up. I was not too worried about the sap wood being too light because my wife wants me to stain it to match the desk I made her about 10 years ago. (yes it kills me to stain cherry) I have a really nice slab that is ready to cut to size after I sand it up.

IF I had these Skills. One of the nice things in this hobby is the many talents and creations of aquarists and the ideas we all get

If you are that into nature you should have no problem cutting down a 50 year old tree as long as you plant another one. Heck plant 3 little ones and you have done your part, as trees don't live forever. Well redwoods almost do but this wasn't a redwood. I live on 3 acers and love land, but I no issue cutting down any tree that even looks at my house and thinks, maybe I should lean toward his house. I have like 100 other trees that are growing on my property so I am doing my part of growing them lol.

TO CUT DOWN A 50+ YEAR TREE FOR THIS IS NOT COOL AT ALL ' JUST MAKE A METAL STAND
Trees are a renewable resource. Now lets talk about all the things you buy and use on a daily basis that are not.

Started working on the base. I did the basic frame with 2x material but I did square each piece with the jointer, planer and table saw first. I did not get the cheap cabinet plywood from lowes or Home depot. I got the 13 layerd plywood from a specialty place. Super strong stuff. I did glue all the parts as well as screwed them together. I do have a lot more to do to this but it is starting to look like something....
