SO I have been having trouble finding water barrels for my soon to be AWC set up. I wanted to get the fancy norco and the like but shipping is more the the product. I can drive 7/5 each way to a place where they make em. but there not cheap there + gas and time.

so i started looking else where, I found some 55 gal drums that had Hydrogen peroxide in it.

am thinking with a good cleaning they should be good to go right? even if there is a bit of trace h202 in there it should not effect my tank as some reefers dose it.

thoughts?

You should rinse it... with water - and you're good to go - you cant be sure that there arent other 'chemicals' in as well as H2O2 - but But - the amount of residual H2O2 would be so small that even without rinsing you should be good.

yeah I asked the seller to double check if that was all that was in it. hoping to hear back by tonight. its about an hour drive but the closest I could find and only 10 bucks a barrel beets 175+ each.
granted the others looks nicer but I would rather speend that money on fish and corals :)

Although it sounds like the nonsense that is "organic" in the food labeling program, organic in this case actually means containing carbon. This stuff is different than hydrogen peroxide, and there are different chemicals that are classified as organic peroxides, like anything with the O-O peroxide group with an organic group attached....so this might actually not be a good thing to use. @Randy Holmes-Farley @Dan_P

Are you buying these from a business? If so, what type of business? I’m wondering what the organic peroxide was used for initially.

thanks that is why I posted. there are reefers out there with a better understanding of chemistry.

I hope its OK I do have a back up but it will be 15X the price and have to drive 100 miles each way 2x.
but I am OK with that if these are no good.

Use Brute food grade trash cans - they are cheap - and work just fine. OR - buy a 'rain barrel' - with a spout on the bottom (which is what I did) and use that. you dont need to set up your room like its in a laboratory (though it looks nicer).... IMHO.
