Currently have two that I didn’t realize were considered nano/pico but one is a 20 gallon, the other a 10. I would much prefer a midsize tank, though, I wouldn’t hate building a monster one day. I started small to learn and pretty much plan to work my way up. Can’t wait to see how far I go.

I started with a 30 gallon and always wanted to go up to 180, but not owning my own house at the time it wasn't realistic.
after buying a house i found a 60 gallon fit my space best and am glad i didn't go with the bigger 180. I find the 60 is a good size when it comes to the work involved in maintaining it.
we also had a 10 gallon seahorse tank for a few years and we loved it. The small organisms that you can keep in a smaller tank are so much fun. Trying to keep them in a larger tank you would never see them.
With all that being said, if i had a spot fir a bigger tank i would go from a 36" 60 to a 60" 90. The reasoning behind that is simple the ability to keep a small tang and other fish that just don't do well in the 60.

I started with a 58 then went with a 225 which lasted about 10 years until I could build my dream tank. I built a 1100 gallon tank but would have went larger if I could have found larger sheets of plywood. I did not want seams so 5 x 10 was the size. I have had some challenges but that adds to the fun and sense of accomplishment.

I'm all over the place. I love cubes of almost any size and my NUVO 40 is probably my most "successful" tank.

As far as standard tanks go, I don't really care for them until you hit 90g. I hate my standard 60g, I just feel like any under 90 are too skinny. I will be upgrading to a 125g with plans to eventually get a 200g (possibly a NUVO 200 EXT).

I have a 95g that doesn't necessarily fit into my plans anymore, but it's a wave front and it just looks so cool I can't bring myself to sell it.

I've also been trying to cut apart a 55g Aqueon to build a custom frag tank with the glass but they have NO silicone gap in them at all ... glass on glass joints are making it difficult.
Skip the 125 and go right to the 180/200.
A 125 is too narrow front to back.

I’d love to but it was just an affordable temporary solution. We might be moving in the next year so I didn’t want to setup a really big tank just to tear it down, but my Naso Tang deserves a bigger home than the 60g.

My house has a stupid layout with open concept. If I had another long wall without windows in the main living area, I would go 6-8" tank. I have always had 30 gallons and bellow. My current build is my first midsized tank.

Would be curious to run the poll again but instead of ideal size. Your current size. Curious what % of people are running what here :)

Bigger the better for my taste. I currently have an Aquatop 24g, but recently got a great deal on a Red Sea max e-170 to upgrade into. I hope to settle into a 150+ gallon in a few years time. Pics of current tank.

Mid size is perfect for me, I had a 120G and loved it, currently have a 32.5G and love that tank as well. In the next year or 2 I'm looking to start building something around 120-200G which still fits the nice midsize range.

I definitely agree with how sharp and clean some pico/nano tanks look. That may end up being a small project while I get parts to assemble the large tank.

Started with a 10 gallon, then a 20, then a 65 and now a 130 and wish I went a little bigger. I think my answer is - the biggest tank you can fit. I do love a pico. though... If I could stuff a tank in everyone corner, I would. But really want something I have to hire a diver to clean.

Even if time or money wasn't a concern I think I would still prefer the midsize tanks. They give me a good balance between being able to fit what I want in the tank and being able to easily see all of the little nuances that I really appreciate in a tank. When tanks start to get too big I start to miss the details that are why I love this hobby.

love it ...1500 will be awesome... did you see the news today a large freshwater tank with 1500 fish inside collapsed in Berlin, spilled out into the street
Yes and what a mess. I posted it this morning on the Lounge section of forums. It was 1 million gallons

I would love to have a midsize or large tank but only have room for a couple picos at the moment. In my mind they're large. LOL To keep anything larger I will either have to move to a place with bigger rooms or start removing furniture. Haha.

120g 48x24x24 gets my vote. I just did a tank re-build after 15yrs running. Pulled the acrylic tank out and polished (looks like new), new trigger sump, went with less rock in the DT and Biomedia in the sump.
