I'm sorry for your losses:( we have been in the same boat. I think it makes it worse because your child was upset and we can't fix everything. I'm the same with mine.

Kind of a bummer of an update:

My hair algae problems in the BC29 are much better since I actually covered up the window next to the tank. [emoji15] Clowns are doing great, silly cleaner shrimp doing great, but I am so sad that my sweet tuxedo urchin is dying. He is my favorite little animal in any of my tanks.

I'm not sure what happened...there was the Vibrant incident a couple of months ago, where he dropped a lot of spines. I thought he had recovered -- he'd been moving about and eating -- but he's been dropping spines since then. I was hopeful that he would keep healing but then earlier this week he also somehow got himself wedged between a rock and the tank wall and I didn't notice for a several days. It was hard to get him free and I probably irreparably damaged him then. :( He's got some sort of white-ish/green-ish stuff on him and I can only guess it's some kind of rot or infection or something. Poor guy, I feel terrible.

Incidentally, ALSO in this last week, my son's betta of a few years died, which was sad. He was the first fish we ever got. [emoji24]

AND in my FW tank, one of the heaters malfunctioned and stayed on; I didn't notice in time and lost one of my favorite fishes, a German blue ram. Luckily he's the only fish I lost in the heater incident.

Anyway in both the heater incident and the stuck urchin incident, it was my fault for not paying attention soon enough. Ugh.

This concludes my update of my worst week in fishkeeping thus far! [emoji30]
It happens. Sorry for your losses.
Good to see you update without me having to ask for one=p

Thought I should update my tank thread! My urchin sadly died. Poor guy. He was my favorite.

I just acquired two new corals yesterday, though. One is a toadstool leather and one is a mushroom. The only other coral in the tank now are green star polyps, so this is a big addition!

One of the mushroom polyps keeps lifting its underside up off of its rock. Is it OK? Did it get damaged somehow? Can I help it?

More pics! The toadstool looks happy again (or at least happier). I just noticed this weird shape in its side--looks like a big chunk taken out. Any ideas what's up with that?

Also any ideas what's up with the underside of one of the green mushrooms? It's been folded up like that since we got it....

Tank is looking good! Do you have a picture of the side of your toadstool?

Thanks @Dsnakes! I just took these ones. The toadstool is kind of in a weird position to photograph in the tank bc there's a wall next to the tank on that side. I stuck my phone out and hoped for the best. [emoji23]

Looking good. Its a normal thing. No worries!

Thanks @cameronh! So you know how you said months ago that getting too much light from the giant window next to the tank was causing my algae issues? Well after @saltyfilmfolks helped me with cleaning up the algae, it didn't come back (much) after I got the dang window covered! [emoji23] Go figure. Lol

Loving this thread Tiki, I too just started a 29g biocube, it's been up set up just over 2 weeks now. I've gotten a lot of good info and advice reading through this. Looking forward to updates!

Always a pleasure. Sorry about the urchin. We lost ours not long ago too.
