Looks like a chela grabbing the Chaeto. Possibly the major and/or minor pereiopod of a Caridean? Would love to see a video of how it moves.

I believe it belongs to a Alpheus obesomanus It's a type of pistol shrimp.

Wow! The only shrimp I have/have had is my tiger pistol shrimp. I agree it looks like the pistol shrimps appendage in the photo. I have a good 10 second vid of this one waving around if there’s anywhere to post it. Thank you all for the reply’s too, I appreciate the help and info!

I'm new to the hobby, but when I search for the scientific name it comes up as a freshwater prawn (shrimp) living in rivers. Is this possibly the same shrimp? What am I missing?

How'd you determine Genus + species from the pics?

The best I could do with researching? Not a scientist by any means, just try to do the best I can with helping members. Also, that species is more common to find as a hitchhiker in the hobby.
