I'm curious as to what these are... they are hard and come off relatively easily when I clean the glass.

They are everywhere on rockwork and in my sump. The only place I physcially remove them is the back glass but they continue to come back.

What are they and is there any detriment to having them in my tank?

I believe those are spirorbid worms, control nutrients on the tank and they should go away on their own. They’re harmless filter feeders that will multiply fast if you overfeed or have a surplus of nutrients in the system.

This is probably the correct answer, although I do not recall any of them having a spiral shape, nor do they move at any visual speed. I will take a closer look and photos this evening.

I had this all over my rockwork when my system matured and almost hit the year mark. They start off like dots and eventually grow into the spiral shape they have.

You can easily scrape them off with an old credit card if you get too many
