Have to redo my rock scape completely now because I underestimated the speed of growth on a gsp. Didn't even feed it and look at it. That's from a super tiny frag I thought would never be that big. Never buying gsp again lol.

Hi there hope all is well. When you say you underestimated the growth rate, how long are we talking to go from a super tiny frag ( i prezume about a 1- 2 square inch frag) to the size it is now and what size is it please ?
I only ask as im very new and often see people say gsp grows so fast but cant ever find out how fast thanks.

okay so I got a super small rock from a friend and the gsp on it was about the size of a fingernail, no more then 5 heads. so I left it on top of my rock scape as I was to lazy to get my hand in there at that moment. So after a week and about to do a water change I decided to but it in my sand. 2 weeks later I see baby heads on my rock at the end of the 5th week it was already about 3 inches. from then to now about 5 months maybe a little longer. That tank is the 13.5 fluval so maybe you can picture how big the rock is.

Need to keep that stuff isolated on their own rock. I get a real kick out of reefers that put them on the back wall of their tank.. Before long you have a cubic yard of radioactive astroturf as a backdrop.

I still like what my buddy did and glue a piece to the top of a ceramic skull. Was pretty cool when it filled out.

yea I Have a friend that let it grow on the back wall. He said it looked great until you have to worry about growth on the other sides of the glass like every other day. i actually liked how my rock work looked, Learned my lesson. No more gsp. Had to completely remove a big part of the rock.

GSP island on the sand. Beautiful coral! But never on the rockwork. :)

would the GSP be easy to keep controlled on the glass?

Same...oddly enough I love it lol.

growing it out on my back wall. I love the way well maintained GSP looks when done that way.
Full wall or floor. I also like it on ornaments. You just really have to be willing to work on it at least weakly.

I’ve never done it before, but in this 29gBC I have it in the back. My aqua scape is off the wall. There’s maybe three inches at the closest spot. Planning on putting frogspawn at the base of the rear rock to keep it from growing up it.

my issues will be from free floating or spawned gsp grabbing somewhere else.

My wife loves it but it does take some maintenance. I’ve had to epoxy over some on the rockwork and trim it about every 3 months. It grew up so much on my overflow it raised the water level about an inch. Fortunately I have a shadow with a removable weir.
Bonus is the wife loves it. Happy wife happy (reef) life

I actually love the look of GSP, but that’s just my opinion.

I like BSP better, but people say they are even worse than GSP. ;Dead;Facepalm

We have our own "little" isolated island of GSP for our clown fish to host in. Adds lots of movement to the tank. I can see how if it got into rockwork people would be unhappy trying to remove it though. Despite reaching out ours has never escaped thankfully.

See, now THATS beautiful!!

Do your clowns host in it?
