how long did it take to get into the routine of the small monthly water change?
I started from month one on my nano and 45 frag system.
All 3 systems get 10% a month now.

I went 18 months with no WC in my old 120 and ended up deciding on 10% a month for all systems based on observable results.

I do dose trace daily also and use the 10% to remove anything that may buildup that cant be tested for.

wow you all do such small water changes. I do 8 gal every other week, which is conveniently two NOT full 5 gal buckets, and exactly 50% of the water (20G minus rocks and sand etc.)

I'm not overstocked, but not super light either. I also feed well every other day. This water change schedule keeps my nitrates around 2 and my phosphates around .08. Everything seems happy and a couple of buckets of water is no big deal to make up. I don't think I could get away with just a gallon or two once a month! More power to you all though ;)
