I would love to hear from the reigning champs about their care and maintenance routines for these systems. The growth of the winning Acros are amazing. Can any of the winners share what their feeding routine looks like and if they incorporate live foods?

Your probably going to find that most of these systems are drastically different. From parameters to feeding to lighting its rare to have anyone who's doing the same stuff. Stability is probably the most common theme.

Little over 2 years and just taking the first frags off my bloodbank a couple weeks ago. Ive got a couple tricks im going to try in the champions contest so i dont end up with a stagnant frag like i did in the helltrollman comp.

As mentioned likely drastically different. Just a second place for me but here’s some tank details:

Lighting - 250W 10k metal halides
Flow: various Jebao SLW pumps (2 SLW 20 and 1 SLW 30 and a Jebao SCO 70 (maybe 50, I don’t recall).
I couldn’t tell you my parameters. I don’t test unless something looks off. Last I tested (a few weeks ago due to multiple STN event, nitrates were about 10, phosphate about .03. I forget the rest. Mag was a little low and calcium I think was on point. PH 8.3-8.4 on average. No clue on alk, that test was expired and thrown away. But last I checked I dose to maintain around 8.

With that said, I dose 12.5ml of all for reef daily through Apex. Rarely do water changes. Don’t run a skimmer (unless something seems off). I run carbon fairly regularly due to my softies.

To me this is crazy. I test alk 2-3 times a week at minimum due to fluctuations in my system and that to me is the most important parameter to keep stable. On the other hand Nitrates and phosphates only get tested 1 to 2 times a month.

It makes me feel better to see that others of us still dealing with the random stn/rtn issues that pop up from time to time. Lost a granulosa last week that I've been babying along for a year and a half to an rtn episode. Went from looking good to gone in about 8hrs.

It seems those with T5's and LED strips have more dense corallites on their colonies (check out the Helltrollsman winners), but maybe this is due to water flow. I'm curious to know if any of the winners do homemade frozen food or culture live foods for their SPS systems, how often they feed their fish, and how densely their tanks are stocked. Are the winning tanks somehow supplying particulate food through copepod spawning or deliberate feeding, or is the fast growth rate a downstream effect (pun intended) of dissolved fish excrement?

Mine is lightly stocked (1 clown, 1 redline wrasse, 1 blue damsel, and another I forget what type (65 gallon tank).

I feed 4 times a day pellet food. Occassionally frozen (about 1 a month or so, just mysis or omega one reef formula). I used to dose live phyto but haven’t for a couple years now.

Yea my issue I think was a rusting magnet. Once that got removed it all stopped.

You’re good! All champions are opted in. Whether you choose to participate by “buying” the frag is up to you. Adam is anticipating not shipping til after Christmas (to avoid holiday shipping delays) so you’be got time

So I was thinking about this and I was thinking back to that movie "The Wizard" with Fred Savage. (I know, 80s nostalgia will be the death of me).

But it's like a Nintendo movie from the 80s or early 90's and the big surprise at the end is that that the little wizard dude and the "Villain" Lucas, get to play an unreleased game, which turned out to be super Mario Brothers 3, but it was a game that neither of them had played or heard of.

I'm thinking would it be fun to do something like this here and take a piece, not a fresh wild piece or anything like that mind you. But some hidden Gem I've had here a long time that's unreleased for this contest.

So no voting or polls or anything. I get to pick the piece out of the secret stash. What are you guys think?

Ahh The Wizard.. every gaming kid of the 80’s/90’s childhood dream type movie

I was in GameStop killing time looking at their collector retro games talking with someone working there and it came up and neither of us could think of the name and faintly from the back of the store we hear “The Wizard”, neither of us knew anyone else was in the store. Then out he came, the nerdiest but still somehow cool dude I ever seen, walked by us without saying a word and exited the store.. you might had to been there but let me tell you, it was an experience lol
