Lasse,

you are quite correct; there are all sorts of reasons to go with a full on system like Triton. Many people like to focus more on the biology of the ecosystem, and leave the chemistry to the experts. Some are tinkerers and always want the latest gadget to see how it works, sometimes then building their own to suit their purpose. And some of us like to play with chemicals, dosing with syringes and watching how the colors of corals react. I think there are enough people in the market to fill all these spaces. And this is why, I do not think that this thread really takes business away from any company. Just a few of us who have experimented sharing what we have found, and helping others who wish to experiment. But there will always be those who don't want to use dosing pumps, or don't want to bother with mixing and measuring, who will buy the Triton system, or something like it. They have their fun in other areas of the hobby.

BTW. I dose trace elements daily in my system; but I would never trust metallic ions to a dosing pump. One time failure and complete disaster! I dose by hand with a syringe.

continuing with our consumer research, now let's calculate ati's boron concentration...

it's 5,000 mg/l, same as seachems. so in summary, for boron, the triton additive stays as top value at 26,000 mg/l!

now let's look at ati's strontium additive... it's 10,000 mg/l

i'll do a summary next post.

my understanding thus far:

triton iodine, 5 mg/l

(seachem 'reef iodine' 8 mg/l)

triton strontium, 8,000 mg/l
(seachem strontium, 10,000 mg/l)
(ati strontium, 10,000 mg/l)

triton boron, 26,000 mg/l
(brightwell boron (called borochrom), 5,671.52 mg/l)
(ati boron, 5,000 mg/l)

triton manganese, 100,000 µg/ℓ
(ati manganese, 200,000 µg/ℓ)

sorry, i still don't understand the powered form #s you guys discussed above, so this is all i can include in this summary... (hint: someone edit it!)

triton potassium, 78,200 mg/l
(brightwell Potassion-P (powder form!), ____?____ )

wait, let me add 1 more strontium additive - brightwell

it rings in at 30,225.71 mg/l... winner winner chicken dinner

Does that mean the ratio I can dose by using other non Triton product?

Ex : Triton recomend dose 20 ml of Triton iodine. Then if I am using Seachem iodine, it will be 20*5/8=12.5 ml of Seachem iodine?

@Kevinkmk

i'm sure there are some PhD hairsplitting issues somewhere, but for my purposes... yup.

now i wish we could do the same for each core7 product, lol. i'd start a thread, but i'm sensing too much hate for this one even.

Hi I’m not sure I calculate it correct because the ratio above does not make sense to me.
Current boron 2.54
Tank volume 80g

For boron, Triton suggest me to dose about 150ml to raise back to 4.5

If I use brightwell boron(brightwell mention 1 ml = 1.5 boron per gallon), then I will be only dosing
106 ml? 106*1.5/80=1.98

Well I've looked throw the thread and there are some very interesting and mind bending maths going on there !!!!! lol
As its been mentioned @Lasse its a total system and its PROVEN to work. Been in Europe we've been watching this kind of system develop over a long time. At the end of the day its the persons personal choice what parts you want to use and what parts you don't.
Personally I'm in on the Triton Method 100%, yes, some people my see it as blind following but if it all goe's **** up I can send it all off to TRITON and they'll find out what went wrong.
Some great work by @ReefTeacher, @Gp, @chipmunkofdoom2 and anyone I forgot.
Also I've seen a few mention about the talk Eshan Dashti did at MACNA 2107 and the big thing I got out of that was "only ever put in your tank what you need to and know what it is", and. "always question the supplier of any products you put in your tanks and choose accordingly". Thats what I see in this thread, Questions, no one trying to undermine any company or anything else so keep up the thread its very interesting.

The big thing that I like is that without TRITON would we even be discussing all these elements of reefkeeping !!!!!

lithium

i'll try to perform the lithium concentration calcs, comparing the triton and ati products.

______________________

my 2nd triton report says...

i need a total of 313.56 m of triton lithium supplement

to supply my entire tank (2411.31 ) with a correction of +65 µg/

_____________________

so i am to correct 65 µg/ x 2411.31 (total system volume) = by adding 156,735.15 µg of Li (whoa feels like a big #)

this is the amount contained in 313.56 m of the triton reagent, so its concentration is 156,735.15 µg ÷ 313.56 m = 499.856 µg/mℓ (
rounded to 500 µg/mℓ)

therefore, triton Li has a concentration of 500 µg/mℓ, or 500,000 mg/

______________________

regarding ati's Li supplement, according to (https://atiaquaristik.co.uk/shop/lithium-100ml/)
, ati's product has a concentration of:

"1 ml of the supplement increases the lithium concentration of 100 litres to 10 µg/l"

as for the conversion, 1 m contains: 100 x 10 µg/ = 1,000 µg

therefore, ati Li has a concentration of 1,000 µg x [ 1000 m
/ 1 ] = 1,000,000 µg/

__________________________

so i only need to add half of my required triton additive to achieve the same result (313.56 m ÷ 2 = 156.78 mℓ)
__________________________

the current value scorecard is:

triton lithium (US$29 for 100mℓ)
500,000 µg/

ati lithium (US$17 for 100mℓ)

1,000,000 µg/

FWIW, your iodine concentrations are off by a factor of 1,000.

A DIY is likely far cheaper for something like strontium. We have recipes for these in the chemistry forum

As to lithium, I see no justification for dosing any.

triton strontium, 8,000 mg/l
seachem strontium, 10,000 mg/l
ati strontium, 10,000 mg/l
brightwell strontium, 30,225.71 mg/l

Here's a DIY comparison to the "best value" for strontium:

Brightwell Strontion 30,280 ppm (brightwell sometiems has problems with proper calculations, but we'll accept this)
At Amazon: 250 mL is $6.30 + $4.99 shipping (maybe you can get it free shipping soemwhere else)

DIY
At Amazon, 100 grams of Sr Cl2 hexahydrate is $8.95 + $5.53 shipping
That 100 grams contains 32.9 grams of strontium.
If you dissolve that in 250 mL total volume, you will have a concentration of 32,900 mg/250 mL = 131,600 mg/L

So for 42% more money, you get more than four times as much product. :)

@Randy Holmes-Farley, would you be so kind as to provide a direct link?

i can't find anything close to that price/weight after searching. i think you bought it all, it's out of stock :p
