Trying to identify what these are in my sump

Hi, these have been multiplying in my sump only. Can anyone identify what these are please? They do not swim or crawl, just stuck to the glass on my sump and any other surface, skimmer, heaters, etc.

Appear to be pineapple sponges. They really like growing in sumps..

Yup that's what they look like first time I saw them I got worried. Found out they're harmless

Yep, pineapple sponge. Thy will cover everything. Just have to scrap them of of pumps and equipment occasionally.

They filter feed and are of no bother to anything in the sump.

If you don't like sponges, measure your silicate levels in your topoff and replacement water. Sponges need silicate to properly grow. Limit this molecule and you'll inhibit most sponge growth.

Up until recently I had a million in my sump, had to clean the sump throughly but they are ever present.

When I bought my used tank in a LFS they used it to keep live rock (I spent 10 hours buffing out the scratches) and i was absolutely covered in those little sponges!

Better to have sponges eat silicate than dang dinos.
