If I'm right then it's totally harmless. Let a few others chime in on identification though.Interesting, I inspected them when I got them. Used a Tooth brush and a pick on them and this has gotten this big in I guess a little over a week. I haven’t tried to remove it yet. Should I try or not?
I just popped most of it off with my thumb nail. It’s hard and brittle. Just wanting to figure out what it is because it’s been in the display for a little over a week.If I'm right then it's totally harmless. Let a few others chime in on identification though.
Oh, and thank you for your replyI just popped most of it off with my thumb nail. It’s hard and brittle. Just wanting to figure out what it is because it’s been in the display for a little over a week.
okay, well I popped it off last night and its in a separate cup floating in by QT, throw it back in the DT?Not at all, actually a good filter feeder. It is just a bivalve mollusk, much like a clam or oyster.
Thanks for the help!!Won't hurt to try.
thank youI've found small bivalve hitchhikers quite often on snails. This guy had all sorts of filter feeders along for the ride, with hitchhikers on his hitchhikers (you can see the edge of the bivalve under the layer of barnacles). I always leave them be.
