Hello, I just got a JBJ 65g rimless AIO. My plan for it is a mix of SPS and LPS. I’ve had both before and I really like LPS but I want to be able to have some SPS.
The tank is placed in the appropriate permanent location and the components are in the mail.
Two things to point out about this tank. 65g is the total water volume not the display volume. It’s approximately 48 and the sump area is divided into more chambers that what was shown online. That being said, I think the components will still fit.

here’s the list of what is going into it.

Tank - JBJ 65g AIO
Light - Kessil AP9X
EHEIM Thermocontrol e 150w
Aquamaxx ConeS HOB skimmer
Tunze 6040 pump x2
Coralife thermometer

I haven’t ordered this yet but I will over the next few weeks.

Tunze Osmolator 3155 ATO.

I’m waiting to finalize the tank’s position until the HOB skimmer arrives to make sure I left enough clearance to the wall.
Then I’ll start putting in the rocks and sand.

55 lbs of real reef rock and 60 lbs of sand arrived today. I moved the left corner a little more away from the back to give a little more room. I only had buckets for 35 gallons of water and I’m making more RO now.

Got the tank filled and working on flow. Also starting the cycle. I used Fritz Zyme 9.

I added the Kessil AP9X light. I haven’t set the final height or started programming it. I did play around with the manual controls a bit and it seems like it will do what I want. Just need to learn the app.

I’m not really sure what to think about the cycling of the tank. I used Fritz Zyme 9 and added fish as they recommend. I too the two Zebra Barred Dartfish from my other tank since I want them in this one long term. After acclimating, they seem fine. I’ve been over feeding a little to make sure there’s plenty of sources of food for the bacteria. I’ve checked the ammonia 3 times since putting in the Fritz Zyme 9 and it always is in the 0ppm range. I’m going to keep checking it daily to see where it goes. It feels like it’s not cycling but the bottle said that you may not see an ammonia spike at all. Feels really strange but so far, it seems to be doing what the bottle said it would do.

Diatoms are much less. At some point, I siphoned out the sugar fine sand and replaced it with special grade sand because I hated how it blew around. I added more live bacteria at that time and I don’t think it hurt the cycle much. The ammonia curve has looked normal.

I started up the skimmer and so far so good. It went wild when I started it and it just about overflowed. The cup had about an inch of wet skimmate in it and I emptied it when the skimmer started to behave better. Now it’s doing fine. I did since it with hot water before using it to try to lessen the break in time.

I have added a Starry Blenny, a Kole tang, and two zebra barred dartfish but one jumped out out while doing some maintenance and I didn’t notice it until I found it dead on the floor. :(

I just added two frags sine the water has been ok and stable for some time. They acclimated quickly and look happy so far.

the fish will absolutely not let me get a decent picture. The corals had no choice.

Such a sleek looking tank set up. I was eying the AP9x for some time but being the indecisive dude that I am, I just copped out and picked up a pair for AI Prime 16HDs for the time being. Obviously, not in the same class as the AP9x but its something for now. haha

Thanks! I was super lucky that my wife told me to get what I wanted (Christmas gift) so I did! The AP9x has been great so far. The experiment not is to get the light right and keep the corals happy.

I’ve been moving over corals from my small tank. I just moved some up higher on the rocks and scraped the glass so the water is a little cloudy. You can see my Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse and Halloween Urchin too.
I upgraded my heater to an InkBird controller and BRS heater which is what I wanted originally but were out of stock. I’ll use the Eheim as a spare.

I added a Flame Hawkfish Friday. I was worried about it picking on things but it turns out the Kole tang and starry Blenny have both set up territories and they are doing the picking. My rock work is glued in mostly so I can’t easily rearrange. I added some additional rocks in some areas hoping to give the Flame someplace to hide and hoping it’s enough to mess up the territories enough. Hopefully it will settle down.
