So I currently only have a neon goby in my tank, and was considering two orchid dottybacks. But I am not sure about adding them, since neon gobys kind of a have a similair bodyshape and I also have peppermint shrimps. Does anyone have experience with dottybacks and neon gobys in a similair sized tank?

On german forums I always read about fridmani being kept as pairs, dunno whether there is a different „standard“ elsewhere

I would guess two dottybacks in a 30 gallon would not work out well. You never know but odds are against you

I do not have experience mixing a neon goby with dottybacks, but I have had good luck with buying multiple ORA captive bred orchids. If you can get them around an inch long they will pair up and one will turn into a male ( longer tail.) My newest pair are in a 20 gallon long and swim and feed together, but have separate caves to sleep in.

You have to be careful with dottybacks. Anything other than orchids follow the same rules as the highlander tv show, there can be only one!

a neon goby looks way to peaceful to be housed with a dotty back. Not sure if orchards are the same but my neon dotty is such a jerk, I bet he'd make quick work out of a neon goby.

Orchids are basically not even dottybacks in terms of temperament. They’re more like a small goby or blenny. Basically all other dottybacks are awful murder biscuits

Supposedly pairing two orchids at a young age is usually not a problem, my reason to be hesitant is because of the neon goby having a similair thin and lengthy bodyshape, and relatively small tank size.
