Hey all, have a purple tang and brown powder tang. I suspect ich with Finn (powder brown) but Poe (purple tang) seems to have a different presentation altogether with a spot that doesn't seem to represent the "classic" ich signs from what I have seen/read. I tried my best with the pics but seems to a bit more than just superficial. I have a QT and the fin on Finn has had signs that have come and gone over the past few weeks so I will be putting all the fish through a QT with a fallow DT for 12 weeks according to Jay's very helpful post (https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/current-quarantine-protocol.825055/). Really, my question is about Poe and if that is maybe something else, such a fluke/parasite/tattoo where a FW bath before going in to the QT is a good idea or not? If someone can ID it just by the pics you are wonderful. Any suggestions, thanks! The spot in question is near the top by his dorsal fin (any other mark is bubbles or pods). Finn's fin discoloration is near the perimeter. I should also note my water parameters are all WNL, nitrate 3, PO4 0.02, Bicarb, calcium, Mg, pH, salinity all WNL. They also don't seem too bothered; eating and swimming actively.

This points out a big issue with remote diagnosis - I can’t see any signs of ich in either fish! The purple tang has that single large spot, too large to be ich, and flukes don’t look like that. The ring around the spot is probably a reaction, my guess is it is bacterial, and the fish is fighting it off.

Thanks for your reply, Jay. Yes, I agree, difficult at best. On the edge of the fin on the powder brown is where you can see it best. The purple tang is improved since last week as there is no longer a white spot in the middle. I’m tempted to watch and wait since Poe does seem to be going in the right direction. Finn has had the white fin come and go for the past month or so, but it’s very faint. I have a 30 gallon ready to go for QT but having 10 fish in there isn’t the calmest place for two tangs, 3 benggais, two clowns, starry blenny, court jester goby, royal gramma, and yellow headed jawfish. I have another 10 gallon tank but currently using it as a nursery for two fry benggai but that’s a whole other story lol.

I'm not an expert here on disease. The powder browns fins looked like my powder blue when I picked him up from my lfs. All went away in a week.
If it spreads I'd probably go into mass panic.

I agree with Jay.
