Here is current lighting after last weeks addition. Love how the light bars pop with blue and add a crazy shimmer I feel.

Most definatly notice a difference, and less shadowing

Who runs T5 bulbs or can help?

The fixtures I WON. Are going to be hybrid lights. I will have four slots for T5 bulbs. What direction to I go in? LED is fairly straight forward, but with T5s what are my deciding factors when selecting between all my options? Blues, uv, etc?

Edit:

#reefsquad any insight to pros and cons for bulb selections?

Well, it's now been one month since I started quarintine on the school of purple queen anthius. I lost a couple with first week, BUT the 7 I have left seem to been doing great. Eating Cyclops and getting fat. Now if I could get them to switch foods that would be great lol.

Hey @HotRocks,

I currently follow GC soaked mysis as per protocol for internal (works flawlessly). But question is, can you GC soak baby brine or especially Cyclops in same fashion? Is it same ratio amount roughly?

The purple queen anthius I have, arnt currently eating Mysis. Their eating Cyclops great, but I can still tell they have internal with white stringy poop.

Thanks

You can mix it with any frozen food. I mix all my frozen foods together including calanus, rotifers, cyclops. I use 12-14 different cubes and sheets. Thaw it all in same cup, strain it, add garlic + selcon and then meds when needed.

Ok, ill try and do a food melody and see if that works. What do you use to strain, as its so fine?

#reefsquad,

What are my deciding factors when choosing which type of T5 bulbs to add to my fixture?

Also Ive started trasfering coral into my display. For coral how slow do I bring them up in the tank, increasing the par? Day, few days, weeks, etc.? Until their up high in the tank.

What type of corals are you adding? First when adding corals I start low and then move up over a week or so. Especially with SPS.

With regard to bulbs a lot depends on look. I have not had a chance to read your whole thread but I have had success with all B+ and a mix of B+ and C+. All ATI bulbs. I run a hybrid - 4 T5s and a G4 Pro Radion. I like a bluer look so I am currently running all 4 as B+. I ran 2 B+ and 2 C+ bulbs but found a little it a little too white.

When it comes to coral placement it may take some time to find their sweet spots.

Any of that help?

I agree with hairy. I use the bp cp combo (2 of each) as I like the whiter look. Also, you can move corals up, but with leds, you can alternately increase intensity and with t5, you can increase photoperiod. When I added t5’s to my tank, I started with them on for half an hour. Then increased the photoperiod by half an hour every 2 weeks. I went slower than you probably need to.

I'm using 2 Blue+ and 2 Actinic in addition to my LEDs, with good results.
Surprisingly, not that blue at all to my eyes. The LEDs do have a good bit of white.
I tried Blue+ mixed with Coral+, but that was just too white for me.

Ok. I could be wrong here, but i read zero Nitrates are bad, and that you should keep some measurable Nitrate levels for coral growth. Is this correct?

For 6 weeks at least my Nitrates are always zero, and Phosphates have bounced between .1 and .6, I auto feed three times a day, 5 fish in DT currently.

I’m curious about this as well. Did you happen to come to a good conclusion on whether you zero nitrates would be a challenge as you introduce coral into your tank?

I’m in a situation with undetectable nitrate and phosphate in my DT. I have not introduced any coral yet, but my QT tank is full of frags ready to go into the main tank. I’ve increased my feeding of the fish in the main display and reduced the photo period of my refugium. My feeling is that slow changes to increase nitrate and phosphate should be fine. In addition, BRSTV is really suggesting it’s all about total nitrogen. So feeding corals directly, adding amino acids, and heavily feeding fish should be a good plan.

This help, yes.

I'm looking toward a more blue look, as this is what I seem to like. As far as what type of coral, a bit of everything lol. I've removed any plugs and glued straight to small pieces of rock as anchors. And some zoa's to larger rocks for grow out.

I'll take some photos today and share. I've transfers around 20 pieces over in the past couple days

If you get a chance, take a read through, and tell me what ya think. Cheers

FINALLY!!!!!!

Well over Friday and Saturday. I've been going through the process of finally get some coral into the tank, aswell as transferred next back of fish into display. Kept my expensive pieces in frag tank for now, just to be safe for first couple weeks, trasfering them soon after( I'm sure DT is fine, but I'm just paranoid lol).

I'm still trying to understand dosing, as with waterchanges or acclimating new pieces, its hard to nail down what my tsnk uses. Hopefully easier now that there starting to get into display tank.

Amazing how its starting to feel real lol. All the hard work of QTing everything, takes its toll when you have to wait so long to see the beauty in it. Love how there is colour now.

I lost my aussie Scott's wrasse :(. But Purple queens school, super Male pintail and few others about three weeks away from hitting DT.

I have some more fish in QT 3, just ramping up copper on them today. Nothing to special. Starting to get my tang list going soon.

I've come to realize I have a addiction to buying coral :D :p

Corals are looking amazing! Agreed that you have too much, though :p . As though that's possible.
Can never have to much.....lol. just when I think I'm happy and good. I see something new. Also going to keep my QT2 a permanent frag tank for grow out, maybe start selling and recoup some money.
