So I started a new frag tank just before the first of the year. Besides the build itself and the purchasing of some new sps frags, I had the pleasure of considering and purchasing some new fish for the new tank. After my first choice I snagged a nicely shaped and marked Maroon Clown. And I also couldn’t pass up a very tiny black and white striped Damsel. The first choice though was a young Unicorn Tang. Pearl white in color. A really striking fish.
So it has maintained it’s consistent white color for the past 6-7 months. A week ago the 2” tang, now over 4” placed himself in timeout at the back of the frag tank. Looking the “nervous” “stressed” “camouflage” look that Tangs and other fish can exhibit.
3 days later, the young tang emerges with 2 blue spots near its tail. Happy that my tang wasn’t stressed any longer, I looked up the curious markings to find the true identity of my young tang. I now have a Bluespine Unicorn Tang, ( Naso Unicornis).
They grow up so quickly. Lol
