Hello everyone, I have decided to upgrade to the Fluval Flex 32.5 after moving the curio cabinet downstairs and freeing up some space. It did come with a price though, I have to paint the kitchen , replace the plastic mounding and put up some crown mounding. I know, I should’ve ask for a bigger tank (LOL). I am happy with the size of the tank and design.
The tank that I have upgraded from is the IM 20. I will be using the mighty jet return pump , hydro controller, heat controller, and trunze ato. The heater will be new and for as far as the lighting goes , at this point I am leaning towards keeping the hood and getting a second light. I have to keep the lid for fear of my crazy kitten.
The mods I have made to this point are :
1) threw out the filters and bought the in-tank racks.
2) On the lower intakes I blocked them with silicone.
3) on the inside of the filter system, I siliconed where the plastic met the glass.
All of the mods should improve the surface skimming. Now I have to wait to get my work done before the transfer. I have 1 picture of the tank that is being transferred from. Any advice or opinions welcomed

Awesome upgrade! I’ve really been liking the flex tanks lately...that bow front glass is a nice touch. I’m same boat as you as far as a lid, I’m custom making one right now because my nano tank never came with one and is not available what so ever. My kids like to throw things in the tank so lid is a must. I also think it’s a good call to upgrade the filter set up in the flex like you are doing - those baskets will give you more options to work with. What kind of LED does that thing come with?

I did a water test and of course the filter leaks. I will be getting a hold of Fluval and see if they can send out silicone to repair it. I used the stock pump that came with it for the test. Fluval should be ashamed to supply that pump with the tank. It barely moves any water. The good news is that the water does flow over the top into the in-tank baskets. I will be running this for about a week to check the temps and see if I have any overheating.

Today I went ahead and ordered the second light and also ordered some super glue as I am doing my gluing of the rocks together in a bonsai style.

Today , my additional light came in. This was installed and now I will monitor the temperature with the hood on. My glue as well as my rocks came in so later on today I will begin breaking the rocks and glueing them together in a nsa bonsai style. Will be placing my order for my sand and cement. Pictures later.

Just out of curiosity, where did you find a flex 32?

I was considering this as an upgrade to my 13.5, but it seemed like it was discontinued.

Today I was able to put together my rock work. It’s actually a really fun project to do. Take big rocks and break them up to glue back together. I will be reinforcing the joints with E-Marco mortar in the pink and thinning the mortar out and painting the rocks. I found this technique in the aquascape forum.

I haven’t really had a problem with the heat, The tank was drained last night. I am waiting for some stuff to come in. Once the area is finished and my rock work is finished, I will start the process of transferring everything over.

Awesome job on the rock work! Looks great! Fish are going to love all those homes to hide in.

Thanks, The stand I purchased from eBay. It’s actually a Fluval stand. I got it $50.00 cheaper than anywhere else.

It’s finally moving day today! Everything from my IM20 will be going into my new tank. I will be putting all my live rock from my 20 into the 32.5 . That should be enough with the live sand to seed my nsa rock. Eventually I will be left with my nsa rock. Pictures to follow!

I have everything transferred over, wiring is a mess right now. It’s still cloudy but is getting better. Some items are upset but others are like normal. Even though I have a mighty jet return, I need more flow. My nano circulation pump does not cut it. Now let everything settle and clean old tank.

I was thinking of doing something similar but I want a sps dominate tank. Don’t know if the lights and skimming good enough for sps. I contacted fluval they were not helpful. What’s your thought with sps or am I making a mistake?
