Let me begin by saying that no fish were harmed in the making of this post... but man, they could have been.
Yesterday, I eagerly awaited my first fish delivery via UPS. Not only was I home all day, but I obsessively checked the driveway in anticipation-- one might even say (and my wife did) neurotically. It's cold here, and I didn't want my beautiful Onyx DaVinci Clowns and Banggai Cardinals to be out in the cold a second longer than necessary.
Imagine my surprise when, around 11:30am, I received a notification from UPS that my package had been delivered. Only it hadn't. There was no box outside, and no tire tracks in the snow from a UPS truck. Attached to the message was "proof" of delivery-- a picture of it sitting inside a garage-- only it wasn't my garage. I immediately called UPS corporate, which promised that someone local would call back within an hour. Meantime, I drove around my neighborhood looking for open garage doors, just hoping the delivery had been nearby, and the door was still open. I'd nearly gone around the full block when I saw an open garage door. But sadly, that neighbor said she hadn't received a delivery.
However, she did say that another neighbor, only two houses down from mine, often leaves his garage door open-- and has a salt water tank. Her guess was that the UPS driver, seeing the big sticker saying "Live Tropical Fish," simply assumed the package was for him (this was my first fish delivery). She happened to know he wasn't home, but we could see his garage door was indeed open, and she suggested I check. She was right! The box was sitting there (in the cold). I collected it and the fish are fine. UPS did call back within 20 minutes, and they were helpful, and had come to the same conclusion themselves. It was an honest mistake, and no harm done. I've always had good luck with UPS. Don't ask me about USPS....
All in all a good outcome, especially since now I know there's another reefer nearby!
