I agree the fish does look lively, that's a GOOD thing. Now we just need to help you get that fish fatter...LOL!!! I agree with others, frozen food soaked in selcon will most definitely help to get that fish fat. @Jay Hemdal, with the decline in fish meds, what is available to help the fish?

What I find is that frozen food is not that ideal to use with selcon. I mean, it helps, but wet foods don't absorb selcon all that well. Having selcon flowing in water is not that useful for the fishes.

Pellets, freeze dried food, those will be a different story. Absorbs every last drop of selcon to ensure best delivery.

In regular light she look perfect, except her nipped at fins.

Do fins rejuvenate? she is such a beautiful fish.

While the fins could have been nipped at prior to you getting the fish, yellow tangs also show HLLE by developing notched fins, so they may not grow back as readily than if they were nipped at by another fish.

This is where I am! We just seem to have zero luck when it comes to healthy fish. Well that is not true. We have two beautiful clowns and a goby that made it through velvet!

gosh.

Lateral line erosion and likely from either an environment in which there was heavy carbon and/or huge vitamibn deficiency due to poor diet.
Offering it Good water conditions and diet will give it a good chance to looking normal. Feed at minimum:

-Spirulina brine shrimp
- LRS Herbivore diet
- mysis shrimp
- small plankton
- Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract
- Hikari Marine cuisine
- Formula 2 flake and frozen
- Hikari veggie marine

Add selcon vitamins to the foods 2-3X per week and on alternating days, garlic extract for stamina and immunity health

That fish is totally OK, by the way I'm a Fish Doctor. Mine looks just like yours. Please let him free into the tank. Not much to say, let him free and enjoy this guy. Very cool fish.

in my past 4 years of buying all kinds of tangs for my 400 gallon tank. Id say 50% of them had HLLE coming out of bags from shipping. Once fish goes through my quarantine and settles in my display tank, HLLE would go away in couple weeks time. if the fish will stay stressed out it might not heal.

Fins grow back quickly on a healthy fish. She looks active. I wouldn't worry over it too much. Feed it well! Lots of GOOD food like nori and LRS frenzy.

Looks a lot better. This is the "epithelial thinning" that I talk about in this column:

Just came across this thread… my baby Biota Yellow Tang came looking the same as yours, minus the nipped fins. She’s been doing great and eating well. I feed her lots of nori, Spirulina brine shrimp, LRS Herbivore Frenzy, etc.
I have to say though, I haven’t been terribly impressed with Biota though. The first tang they shipped to me was lost after bad weather (IMO, they should have checked the weather before shipping as the giant snowstorm was all over the news) and while I know they have no control over UPS, it’s just a shame to know the first baby had such a sad ending. The package was never recovered as far as I know.
After reading several more threads here and articles in other places, it seems that many of their CB yellow tangs end up with HLLE. I’m happy to have my little guy but had I known about the HLLE issues prior, I probably would have held off on getting him. For now, I’m just going to make sure he gets all the nutrition he needs and get him as healthy as he can be. Maybe some of the scarring can be reversed over time.

Reading such stories almost every day. i can't believe what we're doing to animals. Imagine being put in a box with oxygen for 24 hours and nobody is gonna get you out.

People, please drive to a lfs yourself.

No. That's not HLLE. It's a Juvenile marking. I have a yellow tang that looked just like that 2 years ago. Today, he is a 5 inch gorgeous fish. When I got him I quarantined him using a HOB filter. He was so small that the filter strainer caught him and he could not break free. Just gorgeous now.

Opps. Just noticed the HLLE. Feed him REAL FOOD. Frozen food minimum 2x per day. Ideal is 3x to 4x per day. It will go away with proper nutrition.

I’ve used melafix when my clowns would nip at each other and they both healed well. Maybe an option.
