Has anyone put a UV sterilizer on a Reefer 525xl? Its probably going to be my next purchase but not quite sure the best way to set it up (where or how). My main issue is it appears they are primarily designed to be put vertically not horizontally. Which kinda kills my plans. Appreciate any help!

Actually most are supposed to be setup horizontally so that it doesn’t drain completely if the return pump is off.

I used a aquaUV 57W on my Reefer 525xl.

I don’t have a photo now unfortunately, i have upgraded since.

the return was on the left and it was installed horizontally running from left to right, before entering into the return.

the aquaUV manual says it can be installed either way but horizontally is preferred:

Horizontal installation is the way to go with most uv units, but ALWAYS read the user manual before installing. I have mine laying next to my sump. The feed pump is in the first chamber of my sump so any algae that's killed is picked up by my skimmer in the next chamber.

It does, I believe I will be mounting it right where you did, but will be using soft tubing. It's funny, I love how big the 525xl cabinet is but you can fill them so fast.

Futuretotm, you crazy SOB.
I have the 55watt and really need to know how that setup is working for you. I like the lifegaurd filters and am expecting my 525 to be delivered in a few days. You soft plumbed over through cutout? Any advice appreciated. Wondering if i should return uv as I still have another 10 days to make that decision...
Haven't seen another lifeguard user except you. Thanks!

I have a lifeguard 55 on my WB170. Why not just use the one you have?

Works out great actually.
I wouldn't recommend it.
You want something smaller so that you can mount it over the sump, changing the bulb on this guy is going to be a nightmare when the time comes.
It does heat the tank a few degrees btw, so keep that in mind, during the FL summer I run it 12hours at night only. 24h in the winter (I dont use a heater).

looks like you’re using a separate pump for your uv sterilizer?

Not to wake an old thread but I'm trying to install my Aqua UV in my 525XL right now and I am running into issues on where to put it. I thought about installing it like you did but the directions show if you're installing it horizontally, the inlet and outlet are facing up. With the way you installed it, do you see any issues or have any trouble with air pockets?
