I want to know if there is of vacuuming a Reef tank without killing the cleanup crew? There are snails that burrow into the sand, and only come out at night.

I use a wet-jet stick, that is what you would use for dusting...it has a flexible head and collapses to different sizes.I find it is perfect for grooming the sand bed and flexible enough to get inside caves and hard to reach spots...has round top so can be hang on a screw on hock in side aquarium door...Works great and cheep...

Just use a regular gravel vac while doing water changes, shouldn't hurt any snails in the sand bed even if they happen to get tumbled a bit.

I, for one, cannot imagine doing a water change without the help of my trusty python siphon. Try not to clean more than 1/4 of the sandbed at any given time just so that you don't disturb your CUC too much.

I use a gravel vac and it works wonder, sucks so much junk out of the sand. Yeah I’ve hit a few snails from times to times but it just bothers them, no risk of killing them unless you’re really trying to.
