I think that two is plenty, lol, but i could not help myself. It is a dream tank and all...

When you are adding corals? What are you adding first?
I already got some cheap acros in there to test things out. Got them from a neighborhood reefer just to test things out. So far everything is surviving and extending. But not sure of my coral list yet.

I used Dr Tim’s nitrifying bacteria which hopefully cycled my tank in 2 weeks. We shall see.

So had a bit of a set back. Ordered plenty of fish from an online vendor (that I had great experience with before) - everything was great for a first few days, but ich struck and also saw fluke on my Achilles. So had to break everything up and fish did not survive copper but learnt my lesson(they were some pretty fish - mostly tangs).

Everything is now going through quarantine. Vendor said my tank crashed since I loaded up too much but I was watching my parameters like a hawk. Tank is in sitting without any fish and my garage has turned into a fish room! Anyways, vendor did agree to replace 25% of my losses. In the meantime, I found a local fish guy who is great and very good prices.

On a more positive note, corals added are doing great. Also added some LPS. Hooked up my trident to monitor parameters and the sps look to be consuming alk, so daily manula dosing for now (pretty tiny amounts)

Also, made more progress on my plumbing. Here is the manifold galore.

Hi all,

so here is a bit of update. Tank was empty (fallow) due to ich for 70+ days. Finally added the fish back again last week. Display is largely sorted out. Have been adding corals slowly but Acros are still struggling.(LPS, chalices and monti are fine).

Fish wise it is largely a tang heavy tank: Vlamingi, Achilles, purple, yellow, yellow belly hippo.

Also have anthias, bellus angel pair, regal angel and magnificent fox face. Will be adding more wrasses in a bit.

Really hoping ich does not come back for Achilles sake (the achilles did not like the small quarantine and developed HLLE). We will see how it does long term.

In garage sump area needs a lot of organization! Here are some pics.

im sorry to hear about the ich :(. I'm glad everything is going well now. Do you have a UV to help manage the ich? That helps, right?
Thanks, if I did everything right, there should be no ich in the system left now. But yes, I am running a properly sized UV now, so should help.

Added some reefbrite bars to the halides so I could actually see the color of the corals. The fit in nicely with the existing fixture.

The tank with full halide and the reefbrite blue XHO strips on.

Torch garden. Added UC torch of gods, Malaysian yellow and gold. Got a holy grail coming.

Hi All, finally time to start a build thread.

I have an Innovative marine 200 Peninsula on order with white stand. Supposed to ship this week - so I getting ready but am still pretty behind in getting things ready. I had originally ordered their standard 200 but asked about a peninsula layout, and IM said they will be launching the layout in 2 months. So I was on the waitlist. What attracted me toward IM tank was the dimension, 30 deep, metal stand and overall good feedback about quality. Also considered waterbox and redsea but IM seemed to have the based dimensions and best value for money.
unnamed.jpg

I have been in the Saltwater hobby for about 4 years now. First tank was an old 120 gallon tank I bought from a fellow reefer with softies. I ultimately upgraded to mostly SPS. In February this year, We got hit by a storm which knocked out electricity for 3 days. Everything dead - was pretty heartbreaking. Some of the fish were close to 10 years old. Some nice mini colonies. Here is a shot of my old tank before the crash. This tank was very forgiving, I experimented a lot, screwed up a lot and learnt a lot (you know how it goes!) Also blew a fair chunk of green on live sales. Gave away the tank to a local school after the crash.
unnamed (1).jpg

The old tank was fully automated. Apex DOS water changes, water station, and all the Apex gear. 3 radions and T5. I had moderate success with this tank but tank was not doing that well over the past year or so (some RTN on mim-colonies) and could not figure out what was wrong. Stocking for tank was fairly standard: Tangs (Gem, yellow), Fox Face, hawkfish, mandarin, clownfish pair + others. Some really nice clams too.

Plans for the new tank:

My goal for this tank is to be very different from my previous one. This will still be SPS heavy.

Tank location: This will be in a much more prominent location in the house and becomes a center stage. Tank will need to look good and be quiet.
unnamed (2).jpg

Lighting: Moving to halides from Radions. I recently acquired Geissman spectra - a halide and T5 combo. Will be hanging these from the ceiling.

Water station: This will be getting an upgrade. Old setup used the 40/20 gallons AceRoto tanks. This is now getting upgraded to 75 gallon tanks. Still to be plumbed.

Sump: I am taking a bit of risk here. Going with a rubbermaid 100 gallon stock tank. Risk here is the location. I am planning to put this in the garage which is not insulated (I am in PA). I will be looking to insulate just the sump area using the pink boards. The remote sump is about 30ft apart.

Equipment: Reusing pretty much all my equipment. Here are some key ones.
- Return pump: Reef octopus VarioS-8
- Skimmer: Reef Octopus REGAL 200SSS
- Controller: Apex + modules
- Parameter monitor: Trident, Reefbot for other parameters
- Calcium Reactor: Dastaco Xtrema A-3
- Refugium: Pax Bellum ARID N24.
- Flow: Ecotech MP60 (x2)

Fishlist (so far):
- Regal Angel
- Sun Burst Anthias
- Moorish Idol
- Achilles Tang
- 2nd Tang (not decided on exact one - Gem or purple)
- Wrasses (not decided exact ones)

Aquascape
- Not figured out yet.
- Still debating live rock (from Tamp Bay) or going dry rock.
- Still debating whether bare bottom.

Stay tuned for more updates. Will be working on the garage sump setup and water station over the next week or two.

Vik
Following, good stuff.

Some chalices added.

IMG_8037.jpg

The jelly bean (front circular disk) has been in the tank for a couple of months now and I am seeing some noticeable growth.

Other ones came from @Reefsupreme and went into the tank today. Some top notch stuff from him.

Just a quick update to the build thread, I used the holiday break to swap out the homemade sump with a reef synergy. (Still need to sort out wires).

Tank also has an Alkatronics now - a great piece of equipment. I think I will be selling my trident now.

I'm a bit confused. With such a massive stand to work with why did you end up with such a big remote filtration set up?
There are too many pros to having a separate fish room for sump
Etc. I unfortunately don’t have a fish room, so ended up a part of my garage.
Working on the sump is a breeze, I have been able to fit and have easy access to all my equipment for maintenance (UV, ca reactor, PAX, Alkatronics, external
Skimmer…). It will be a tight squeeze under the tank. Electrical connections are also not hanging out next to water. I can spill water and not care too much about it.

this is a lesson learnt from my prior tank. Everything was under the tank but when it came to maintenance and cleaning, not the best choice. Not saying it can’t be done. The stand is pretty big.

i mean from having to Jam a 7 gal ATO res, reef essence 130 skimmer, MBR 157 reactor, 20 gal sump, twin 2 gal media reactors, hard plumbing, etc. under a 24x 22" tank I get it.

I was really hoping to get the 200 EXT and keep everything underneath. wife would never approve remote filtration.

There is plenty of space to get it all in there, don’t get me wrong. And stand opens from all sides. You will probably get a 4ft sump and that leaves you about 2 ft to work with. You also have 30 inch of width (sumps are generally 18 wide).

just measure all your equipment and see how you will fit it all. If you need stand’a internal dimensions, let me know.
