I have a beautiful Unicorn tang (Vlamingi). She's developed some raised nudule looking spots around her head, mostly between eyes and head. All marks are symetrical and I have no clue what it is????? I have done a CRAP LOAD of research and can't find an answer so I am turning to you all and hoping for the best

IMHO
This is how Naso genus tangs show symptoms of HALLE. It's very common in vlamingi tangs.
It can be cured, but may leave some scars.
Provide LOTS of food. 90% seaweed/nori, Clean water, and plenty of swimming room.
I rescued a female that looked much worse than yours, about 6 months ago. It's hard to tell anything was wrong with her now.
What size tank is she in?

Hey, thanks for that and it's a relief I can save her. Is this contagious? I've got her in QT right now and it's too small, don't want to risk my display if it's going to cause the rest of my clan issues.

No. It is not contagious. She will likely get worse if left in QT. She needs a really large stress free tank. That's the problem with these fish. They get LARGE and begin to stress as they outgrow their tank. This is usually when the symptoms you see arise. The symptoms can show up for other reasons as well. Poor water quality, poor diet, basically anything that causes stress.

How often are you feeding Nori? I have 2 in my 600 and they eat a full sheet everything day. I switch between green and purple

After a little research, I've only just started feeding her this. I'm going to increase to a sheet a day. I have two more tangs that will go for it too.

My 2 are easily 10” each and there’s 2 other tangs in there as well, if they don’t eat it all in a day then only feed every other day.

Are you able to tell me why sleeping in or next to the rock work is relevant? I am concerned if I put him back into the display tank he'll go back to the same postion and the conditon won't improve.
Micro abrasions on the face from squeezing into a small place. When I bought my hippo he was the size of a quarter. Now he's 4" and was still trying to use the same crevice he had used his whole time in the tank. Started getting some micro abrasions on his face. I adjusted the rock work so he would fit better. Cleared up after that. Mine is timid, I walk in the room, he nose dives in the hole.

I'm not saying thats what it is, just my first thought when I saw the picture.

I believe it is hole in the head disease. I am not 100%.

Haven’t seen it in a while so will need to go back and check

Edit, I meant to ask if that tang is yours or a pic you found?

If it’s Hole in the Head you’ll also see white stringy poo as that is caused by a diplomonad (internal flagellate).

hlle? Always trying to learn and what better source.
