Thank you. Starting my 40b build as soon as I get the overflow.
No problem, good luck with your build. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me and I'll see if I can help.

Made some changes to the "cabinet" I added on to the end of my stand. The first one I made was ok, but a little too small for my needs now. So made a new one and got it swapped out. Tomorrow I'll move the GHL P4 over on to the top shelf and then this little mini-project will be done.

It's not as nice and clean as many members, or where I want to end up ultimately, but that will come later this summer when I upgrade the tank and stand.

I have to admit, now that I have the "new" cabinet all installed and cleaned up, I'm seriously considering going back to Neptune for my controller. I really like GHL, and have had it in the past, but purely from a familiarity and cost (for upgrades) perspective, Neptune might be the way to go.

Right now I just keep thinking about pricing between a Trident, to measure ALK and Cal (I know, it does Mag too, but I'm not really worried about that) vs. needing to get a KH director+4 head doser+Ion director+another 4 head doser, all to do the same thing.

I know it's not apples to apples per say, since the build quality and such on the GHL gear is much better in my opinion, but the functionality for what I need it for is what's making me reconsider.

Well, swapped out my controllers and made a "quick and dirty" equipment board for my little DIY "cabinet" connected to my stand. Still need to mount my Gyre controller, but it'll do for now.

Rolling with an Apex EL for now. I figure this will let me add what I want, when I want and keep things a little more modular.

BTW, see that large opening on the bottom left? That's for a Trident....if I ever get lucky enough to find one! Hahaha!

So I decided to go back and give an ATS a shot again. I've got some GHA that's starting to get a little out of hand and I need something to out-compete it. But this time, I'm not dropping a bunch of cash on one. I decided (possibly foolishly) to try making one. It's a 2.5gal aqueon aquarium, drilled, wrapped in reflective aluminum tape, with a cheap Amazon LED light, and fed by a MJ1200.

There's is some growth starting up now, about 2-3 weeks into it (which is faster than the expensive one I used to have)

I guess time will tell.

Oh, and 2 things to note, yes, I did crack the thin glass on the one end (where the input is), but I had already layered gorilla tape on that side to hopefull help reinforce it so it wouldn't crack (that didn't work). But it's very solid and I "patched" the cracks with some super glue/accelerator to help reinforce it. If it works well, then I'll make a new housing and put something in the tank, against the glass to support it when drilling.

And point #2, there's no place where the aluminum touches water, so I'm not really concerned about in polluting the main tank.

Well, my DIY algae scrubber seems to be doing better than any of the others I've tried. No idea why since I'm just fumbling along seeing what works. I did make a lid for it though, to block out most of the light, so it doesn't look like I'm growing...ummmm...herbs in my house!!

Also, I added a Jebao 3.4 doser, which, at least so far, is working flawlessly (knock on wood). It calibrated fine, and now after a few weeks, it's still holding the calibration, so far so good.

I finally picked up a Trident and got it running. While I still say that it's not "needed", it is allowing me to keep a closer eye on my parameters, which is already showing dividends in the coral color and growth in the tank. So I guess for me, I needed a "lazy" way to keep track of things.

And lastly, I added in an Aquarocks piece I had made so I could have a home for frags without the normal frag rack hanging on the glass (although I can already see, I'll end up having one again sometime). It looks cool though (would look better if I used round frag plugs instead of square ones! hahaha!).

Hey any update on those noopsyches and growth?

I don't run them anymore. I got a silly good deal on a pair of Hydra 26HD's, so I switched over to them.

BUT, while I was running them, I liked them a lot. I actually almost wish I still had them. The ONLY benefit of the Hydra's over the Noops is the app/programming site (for me anyway). AI's is much nicer.

It's been working great! I actually stopped updating this thread when I moved back in June, but I have a new thread HERE that has some updated info. I ended up building a different one that I could 3D print, so it was the size and such that I wanted. It's been working well and I clean it about once a week (maybe a week and a half sometimes). My nitrates and phosphates have been dropping nicely and the growth I get is just crazy. So I'm quite pleased with it.

Actually I'm so happy with it now, that I've decided to leave in the "prototype", at least for now. I updated the design to be a little better (added a vent, additional light overflow blocking for where the lights go, and made the "viewing window" smaller to minimize light bleed as well. One of these days I might go ahead and swap them out, I'll post pics in the other thread if/when I do.
