Ok, so we're moving to a new home next month, so in an effort to minimize the "pain" for both the critters and myself, I've put together a new stand, tank, sump, etc. that will be set up in the new place, then I'll quickly migrate everything from the "old" setup to the new.

One really nice thing that is coming out of this is that I know what I liked and didn't like in the current setup, so I'm adjusting the new one a bit.

It'll only hold a 40B for now, but it's built to support a 48"x24" tank, so I can upgrade to an 80 shallow pretty easily later on if I want to. For now, it just gives me more space to work and have gear.

So here's a few pics of the new build. If anyone's interested, you can see my "old" build HERE.

I still need to touch up a few things, and add in some shelving/gear area on the right side (my goal is to NOT need a cabinet beside it, like I have now).

I love new builds- it's just rife with possibilities! Can't wait to see the transition and good thinking on building the larger stand to be able to transition!

Wow, can't believe it's been so long since I updated this!

Ok, so this will be a "slightly large" update, but I'll keep it brief!

So we got moved back at the end of May, and naturally one of the priorities for me was the tank (my wife seemed to think little things like beds, couch, stuff like that was important too, so I had to divide my time! hahaha).

I got it set up about a week before moving all the livestock over, so it was up and running and I only had to remove some water while adding in the rest of my LR, critters, etc. Full disclosure, I had already started "seeding" about 2 liters of Marinepure spheres a few months ago in the existing, or "old" tank. So I went ahead and moved them to the new tank once it was up and running with proper temp and all. I don't know that I needed to, but I figured it couldn't hurt.

This move was probably one of the most time-consuming moves I've done (I've moved 4 times since I've had tanks) but it was the smoothest by far. Having a fully running system to "drop" everything in to was definitely a good idea.

Anyway, here's some pics:

Starting to fill it up in the new house:

I do have an equipment cabinet/wall/side, whatever you want to call it on the right side, and once I get it cleaned up, I'll add some pics (it's just equipment though, so not much to look at). I seem to have lost my mount for the EB832 in moving, so I'm looking for someone that can give me dimensions and I'll just 3D print one.

Also, I'm still using my DIY ATS and it's been working great! I need to clean it more frequently than "whenever I think about it", but regardless, it's growing algae like crazy and my nutrients look like they're in check. Full disclosure though, I'm not checking nitrates or phosphates very often. I've started going by "how does everything look" to determine if I need to do more testing or change something (i.e. if the glass needs cleaned more frequently, then I know I need to clean the ATS).

I'll post a link to a little video I did of the ATS "harvest" in a little bit.

Well, my "harvest" from the ATS was substantial, but not quite what I think I need. Algae was only on one side (makes sense though, light is only on one side) and it literally fell off the screen when I was cleaning it (think like a solid mat of algae).

So, I decided to make a new "DIY" ATS. But this time, I'm going to design it and print it on my 3d Printer (I should say one of my 3D printers as I seem to be "growing" them too!!!........gonna have to make some room soon! hahaha!). Anyway, I have the prototype designed and printed the bottom section. But I've since decided to edit that and change how the lights are mounted, so I'll be re-printing it. Once I'm happy with that, I'll print the top section and then see about putting it all together.

Now I know, I could just buy an already proven ATS, and I have in the past. BUT, this is going to be tailored to exactly what I want and other than the time involved, it'll be less expensive (I think). Like I want it to rest on the lip on each side of the 20L I made into my sump so I don't need any braces/stands/etc.

I'll post pics of it before and after installation and some over time pics too (we'll see if it even works!).

Ok ,so I've been testing out an algae scrubber on my tank to replace the kind of clunky, DIY one I had. So far, it's been a bit of a journey, but I think I'm making good progress.

Started adding some Euphyllia to the tank. Made a deal with my wife, I can get rid of the Xenia if I get something else that "moves'. So went with some torches! Now I just have to pull all the rock the d@#n Xenia got on and hack it off!

So far the ATS I put together seems to be doing quite well. I'll probably clean it this weekend, but I'll post some pics of the growth when I get home tonight.

Ok, so here's the "harvest" from my DIY ATS:

Still in the slimy stage, but this is only 2 weeks growth. So I'll say it's doing ok. Time will tell though.

Also figured out/solved my overflowing issue when I'd put the lid on it while it's running. Just drilled a couple of small holes in the top (about 4mm) to let the air escape and it was golden. Now I need to add that to my design since once I get all the kinks worked out, I'm going to print another one so I can have a "perfect" one (perfect........yeah right! hahaha)

Quick "walk around" of the tank. I'm using the Polyp labs yellow filter, but it's still pretty blue (which is weird since I don't keep the tank very blue when looking at it with the naked eye). If I use the orange filter, then everything is orange, so that's not right either. Guess I'm going to have to learn to edit the video color or get a better camera!

Just added in a new custom piece from Aquarocks, so figured I'd post a FTS.

Now, I'm not crazy about having the middle "pile O' rocks", but they all have coral on them and I can't just pull'm and kill off the coral. So until I have a better frag saw, this is how it'll have to be. The good thing is that even though you can't see it, there's a lot of caves/swim throughs in that mess for the fishes to hide and sleep in.

Looks good! I had no idea you started to a new thread, thanks for linking from the old one.

Neither had I!

Thanks for the information about your algae scrubber. How large of a printer are you using to print a scrubber? It sounds so futuristic! So glad it is working well for you.

I'm using a combination of a Creality CR10s-Pro and Tevo Tornado. They both have 300mmx300mm print beds, so I can print one "top" and one "bottom" at the same time. I think I'm going to have to upgrade though and get a larger one (like an Ender 5 Plus or CR10 Max) for some larger prints I want to do. I just have to decide which of my existing ones to get rid of to make space for the new one!

Ok, well since we're talking about the ATS here, I'll just provide updates here so they're all in once place! (and it's easier for me!).

When I cleaned it last week, it had about the same amount of growth as the previous photo, not quite as much "slime" but it's definitely doing it's job. I checked it again last night and I think I'll clean it again today/tomorrow just to keep on schedule, but the growth has slowed down a little, but it's still doing well in my opinion. I'll post additional photo(s) when I clean it again.

Also, I have completed and printed the updated version of this with a vent "built in" to the lid, some additional adjustments to the windows for the lights (to minimize light bleed) and narrowed the "viewing window" to also minimize light bleed. I think my next step will be to design/print a "door" for the viewing window to it's completely blacked out when not "open". My only issue now is convincing myself to dismantle the "prototype" that's working perfectly fine to install this one. Haha! I don't know that it'll happen anytime soon, maybe if I get really bored.

Correct me if I am wrong, you have the ATS just sitting inside on the lip of the smaller tank? What size is the smaller tank? If you need some extra convincing to get the new one up and running make me a good deal on the old one. Just PM me when you are ready. I have not bought the lower tank yet for my new 40 gallon breeder build. Still need to drill for the overflow.

It is my 140 I need to do something ASAP for. I have converted an old Algae reactor, Skiimz, into an ATS. It is helping. But it is a poor design.

You are correct. I designed it to fit inside the lip of a 20L (since that's what I'm using as a sump and I didn't want to have to build brackets or a stand for it). It should also fit on a 29 as well since I believe it's just a bit taller. If/when I get a printer with a larger print area, I'll likely scale it to fit on 30/40B's as well since I kinda want to go with a 40B sump eventually anyway.

Thank you for your interest in the "old" one, but it's got too many little flaws I don't like about it to give, let alone sell/trade to someone. It's a real prototype! Haha! Even the "lid" is a little rounded due to some bed adhesion issues I had with the printer. Kind of like a little "domed" on one side....it's comical to look at. BUT, if you want one, PM me and we can work out a deal on the updated one, since I can print another one anytime I want. This scrubber should handle about 2-3 cubes of food per day I think (based on lighting and screen size). I do know that it's lowering my nitrates and phosphates faster than I expected, which is a good thing since I really prefer to feed a bit heavy to keep everything happy but I've been "diet feeding" lately.
