A Tahitian yellow hawkfish! And guess what I just had to buy... said yellow hawkfish. I went in for a flame hawkfish, but couldn't resist.
So, I've done some research and from what I can gather, they are similar to flame hawkfish, but can be a bit more aggressive. My last hawkfish never bothered anyone or any of my inverts... I'm hoping the yellow one will have the same demeanor.
He's a good size (approx 4-5 in) and seems quite healthy. He's in a big tank (280 gal) and has the following tankmates:
Tang gang - Yellow tank, sailfin tang, blonde naso tang and tomini tang
Pearly jawfish
Yellow watchman goby
Lawnmower blenny
Disco blenny
6 line wrasse
Coral beauty
Typical CUC - hermit crabs, various snails
3 Peppermint shrimp (that TBH, I'm hoping he eats)

Given their rarity in the hobby, I'm hoping someone out there has one or had one and can provide some insights and advice.
Thanks all!

nice man. they are a bit larger then the average hawk. id compare them to arc eye hawk. you should train it to eat from your hand. under proper conditions, they are long lived, hardy, and personable.

You are lucky on that price. Here in north NJ, two stores had them recently for $400. One store owner said that his destroyed all shrimp and crabs.
