i am looking for a way to run a single Radium SE 150w or 250w (not sure which would be better) on my 72 gallon bowfront (4 ft) with either 2 or 4 54W T5 supplements. I would like to run only one halide for energy saving reasons, plus my tank is 99% zoos and lps so i dont want to blast them with 2 halides. i currently have a TEK 6x54W fixture -but i am in love with that Radium and have to find a way to incorporate it. I have the canopy that came with it (oceanic) but i dont think there is a way to "diy" something in there (its basically plastic with a few pieces of particle board) and im REALLY not much of a "diy"er haha. Would love to find a fixture that accomplishes this but just can't find one so far...

i think that the 2 x150 HQI 4 x 54W Fixture by Giesemann is my best bet, i am only concerned about 2 things (besides price!)

What kind of ballast does this fixture have? i havent been able to find that info and also how does the 150W radium look compared to the 250W?

I would run 1 or 2x250watt mogul radiums (24" penetration instead or 18" AND about the same price as the HQI 150 radiums but more available) with 2x54watt T5's actinics (one blue, one purple) More than enough light for SPS but you will get great coloration with the addition of the actinics but you don't need to run them as the 250's would be enough light without the T5's. I run 2x250watt Galaxys with Radiums and 4x54watt Geissman T5's (2 blue actinic, 2 purple actinic) on my 120gal and love the set up!! I get great growth and great color, I use the T5's on my aqua controller for sunrise/sunset effect too... Hope this helps.

I used 2x 250w JBJ K1 Falcon Retro kits on my old 72g Bow. Worked out prefectly. I am now running the same kits on my 120g until I get new reflectors.

JBJ-USA Aquarium Products

Go 2x 250w Mogul and 2x 54w Geissmann Actinic +'s

Thats all you need for awesome growth and insane color IMO
