I have a 75gallon, 5-6yo, mixed reef plagued by blue clove!!! 2/3 of the tank is affected! Including aragonite sand. Deeper sandbed with plenum.
I have fenbendazole 222mg capsules. I have removed all my most important & unaffected corals and taken frags of others that cannot be removed easily. I have removed inverts & my sump rocks are cycling in a brute can.
I have read the recent threads on this& @Glenner’sreef write up & photo documents (thank you for this!!!) he used 8g on 180 gallon but I’ve also seen 1g/10gallon. Thoughts ?!
Dose in 2 doses?
Should I leave protein skimmer overflowing? Add air? 5 days treatment? Redose if it’s not gone? Immediately? After a 20% water change?
Hi, Just saw this post. How are things going with your BCP infestation? Have you dosed fenben yet? So I took all of the info posted on this site and just went for it. Super bowl Sunday I dosed 2 full grams of Panacur C or Fenbendazole and the next day the other half of the pack or 2 more grams for a total of 4 grams into my 180 display. As of today Sunday April 3rd, I’m very pleased that I did it. 4-6 weeks ago I started big water changes. Also 2 big bags of carbon and also one of two Poly filters. All in the effort to pull any and all medication from my tank. Pulled some large snails from my frag tank and conchs. Added them, they are all doing fine. My DT zoa colony is making a good comeback. Opening back up and coloring back up as well. No sign of any blue polyps. I noticed you thought i dosed 8 grams? Very sure it was 4 grams. Good luck. Keep me informed.

Hi @Glenner’sreef ! Thanks for responding! Right after I posted that I did go back and see that you did 4 grams, I’m not great at using R2R yet. So I’m sorry about that mistake.
I also had read someone else used 1mg per gallon and it worked so that’s about what I dosed. I figured I could always add more. On 3/29 I diluted 222mg into 45mL of water and dosed about 16mL, the fenben does not mix well. The BCP was definitely angry and closed up. On 4/2 I dosed 5mL more. Some seems to be disappearing but it’s still mostly there but all closed and tiny dots. I’m now thinking I should finish the container. Thoughts? I feel like it’s at a stand still possibly. Was thinking about blasting it with a Turkey baster? But wondering about spreading it. Good or bad idea ? Dose more? Get up to a full gram? I’ve taken some photos so that I can post afterwards.

Hi! @Glenner’sreef , thank you for responding! I’m not super savvy on r2r yet so this is my 2nd response because I lost the 1st.
Right after I posted I went back and read & realized you did in fact do 4grams and not 8g’s sorry for that I will try to edit.
i also read someone else did 1mg per gallon with success, so that is about what I did, thinking I can always add more. And being part of the experiment why not try?!
On 3/29 I diluted 222mg into 45 mL of water, this didn’t mix well but I don’t have a mg scale. I used 16.5mL . It is definitely is closing up the BCP and having some effect but kind of at a stand still I decided to 5mL more on 4/2. Some seem to be disappearing but the majority is still there all shriveled up.
Im currently thinking I probably need more or do I wait it out? How long? Add the remainder of the solution? Go up to a full gram?
i have been taking pictures to add after successful removal.

EDIT POST- @glennersreef only used 4grams of Fenbendazole and NOT 8grams. I was wrong.
If there is a way to Edit my original post please let me know!
Is R2R easier to use on TapTalk with an iPhone?

Fenbendazole Update . On 3/29 @ 1:45 am I diluted 222mg into 45mL of rodi water , does not mix well. I dosed 16.5mL so about 1mg per gallon. On 4/2 I dosed 5mL more. I’m trying to experiment with minimal dosing. Photos are on 4/1 @10am. Trying to be patient.

So here is a series of photos taken between February 13th - 20th. A weeks worth of destruction on these invasive corals. That was again with 1 - 4 gram packet dosed over two days. Still no sign of any polyps at almost 2 months.

Hi @Glenner’sreef, checking to see if any polyps have returned? My minimal experiment has failed, polyps are back, redosing fenben again, this time with about the same dosing you did.

I have done experiments on this coral. I have heated tank water in the microwave and squirted directly onto the coral with a syringe outside the tank. It does die back and you will have to do this multiple times.
If you can't take out the rock it probably won't work.

Hi @GooniesReef how are things looking since your most recent dose? My fish did not suffer at all during this. And i did have wrasses at that time. Someone (well meaning I’m sure) posted that it would kill wrasses. Obviously not true. Leathers, Gorgonians must be removed. After dosing you’ll see piles of dead Bristle worms. Syphon them out as you see them. To clean up: do big (1/3) of your tank water change, carbon, change out every couple of days. Poly filters also. All 3 things will assist in removing the medication.
