Yes, that would work. Except I don't need 4 just looking for 4...

I found some on craigslist but not sure how to clean them to make sure they don't mess up my water.

I have found those amazon containers at Wal-Mart in the camping section. Found some narrower ones as well. Any store that has camping supplies should have something

I had a field day at home depot and bought two 5gal buckets, one lid, and 1 (~$7), air-tight food-safe lid, one 2gal bucket with a lid, and a one gal bucket. (I need more!) I use the cheapest orange home depot bucket for old tank water only, and the one 5gal bucket for mixing freshwater with distilled or RO/DI water only. I will search for some links or upload my receipt if I can't find it. (the more buckets, the merrier!)

We have a winco where I live (Comifornia) and they sell the typical opaque 5g water jugs for $6 each. Same ones the big pet stores all for double the price.

A new gas can works just fine but you'll probably get an odd look from the neighbors from time to time.
