Originally, when I put water in the tank, the display area and the rear chambers were about even. The water was just above the filter floss in my media basket. The chambers were also quiet.

When I did my recent water change, I may have put too much in. When the return pump is off, the water level is about 3/8" below the framing. when I turn the pump on, water pulls from the back chambers and the water level goes up to about 1/4" above the framing. It's not consistent though. As I check the tank from time to time, I notice that the water level rises and lowers by 1/4" or so. The tank is also making a "gulping" noise in the rear chamber. I don't have anything but a heater in chamber 1, there is an InTank media basket in chamber 2 with some clean filter floss on the top and Seachem Matrix in the middle. There is nothing in the bottom level. The rest of the 2nd chamber is open. The 3rd chamber has a filter sponge in the connection from the 2nd chamber to the 3rd, the pump area is just on the other side of that. The pump area is not getting to low, but it seems like there is a little too much water in the display area and not enough in chambers 2 & 3. Can I fix this with flow? (DC pump) Do I have too much/little in the tank as a whole?

Any suggestions are welcome.

If there isn't "enough" in chambers 2 and 3, then you didn't put to much in, you didn't put enough water. the gulping noise sounds like the return pump thats probably in your 3rd chamber and its not getting enough water.

If the water level in your display is higher and yet the chambers aren't filled, you have a blockage somewhere. Thats not allowing the water to get into the chambers. Pics would help.

Take the sponge out between the middle chamber and return pump chamber. It's probably plugged up. Sounds like a biocube? I took that sponge out, it gets plugged up rather quickly, and causes the issues your having.

It is a Biocube 29. The gulping sound kinda sounds like it's coming from the second chamber. Almost as if it's a sudden pouring sound. I have the overflow set to go to the media basket.

The water level in chamber 2 is about 4" lower than it was previously before the water change. Do I just need to add water back there maybe?

The water level is 6-8" above the pump intake so It's not the pump making noise.

I took the sponge out. It was pretty clean. Some minor dirt is all. I don't know if that could have affected the levels.
