Started the reef flux 7/17 so the macro has been in 5g bucket with air line since then and I backed off feeding as heavy. 9 days later nitrate around 7 and phosphate 0.042 so creeping up but not bad.

When I treated with reef flux I never pulled my cheato and had no issues. I thought flucanazole didn’t effect macro algae

I have heard mixed things and last time I used it the macros melted, it could have been lack of nutrients or anything since the chaeto didn’t take off until started chaetomax, but I have almost a 5g bucket full with other macros mixed in so figured play it safe. I should get a bigger basket for it now that I think about it.

Put skimmer back online and added carbon back in. Numbers today:

Potassium 460+
PO4 0.072
Nitrate 10
Alk 10.5 (hanna) alkatronic set of this

I am letting alk drop, I don’t think all the corals respond well to the higher alk.

Bit of nutrient rise but not bad. Also gigas is 3 weeks here and new growth pic along with recap of initial pic and 2wk.

I’m thinking of getting 3 or so high end acros from battlecorals since have been so happy with my others. Talking with Adam about what he likes atm. For reference here are the two packs i ordered before.

@Battlecorals delivers again. BC has been in my top 3 vendors a while now, but I think they have finally edged to #1. Always amazing coral but service and constantly exceeding my already high expectations is really what pushes them to next level. And of course tossed in another they didn’t tell me about so I get even more excited!

Not a whole lot to update, funny enough the whole reason I bought the pack the bath RTN the next day. Adam said he would send me a new one the next pack I order, which is over the top service! It stopped dying about half way down, so it might make a recovery. The others are all great. I ordered some more berghia as they have not been doing the best job, although I do see one or two at night (and one in the filter sock...)

Other than that still decreasing alk, 8.8 now. I will start adding a few ML back into the dosing to slowly hit 8.5 or 8 but at this point that can take months if needed, no biggie. I have seen positive indications from some corals on this alk reduction, plates and chalice mostly. I don't know why.

Thanks, very tempted to get one for my sps tank. I know clams like a ton of light my tank is about 170 par at the bottom and 300 at the top I’m sure I can find a spot in the middle somewhere so around 225-250 par (high pur as I run my kessil at 30% color)

Well all the talk of clams in your tank got me to break down and get one. I found a nice 2.5” deresa for $30 so I pulled the trigger. It was the first clam I ever kept 20+ years ago so I figured it would be a nostalgic addition. My wife asked how big they get and I told her, well I got a dirty look and a comment of “I guess this is your way of getting a bigger tank” she knows me so well.

Haha, gotta play the long game there!

That is a sweet deal for that size, post some pics and congrats! It's fun to see how big clams like derasa change over time with the mantels and patterns. Can't wait to see it progress.

Not the best pic my blue fin damsel wouldn’t stay away as he wanted food so the clam kept closing (for only a couple hrs in the tank I’ll take that as a good sign)

I hate admitting this but I actually got it at petco, I took my dog in to get him a treat and I saw the clam. I waved my hand over the tank and it closed right up and it’s foot was attached to some rubble so all good there. Once I saw the price I had to get it.

Some of the toughest clams I have ever gotten have been from PetCo! And you can't beat the price. If you get the fast or if they have lived in some of those systems a while and survived you know they are tough! I love those derasas with the blue edge. Should be a stunner!

The blue edge and the larger stripes vs small thinner ones are my favorites as well. They had another larger one with tight thin lines and less blue on the edge that I considered getting as well for the price.

I know petco gets ORA frags as they have the black plastic plug if live to k ow if there are from there as well

I can't speak for all petco's but mine locally does get clams from ORA, I have seen the bags when they come in.

Clear view lid arrived today! I didn't have them notch for cords it's easier to Dremel sand those parts for cords. Fits nicely and sure is better than the DIY one
