Hello reefers,

I'm planning to start my second reef tank pretty soon and turn my first (5 gallon) into a qt.

This is the list of what I'm planning to use for the new system:

1. Waterbox aio 35.2
2. 30 lbs sand CaribSea Arag Alive Fiji Pink
3. 25 lbs dry rock
4. Ai prime 16 hd light
5. GFCI powerbar
6. UPS backup battery
7. Heater Cobalt Neotherm 200W
8. Nero 3 wavemaker
10. Sicce Syncra Silent 1.5 return Pump 358 Gph
11. Brute container 45 gallon - for rodi water
12. 2 x 5 gallon buckets for mixing and auto top off
13. Inkbird controller
14. Tunze ATO

I will be feeding responsible so I think I can stay on top of it with weekly 15% water change, without getting a skimmer.

What else do you think I need to get or be prepared to get after the cycle is over?

I would also love to hear your thoughts on the stocking. For now I want a pair of Picasso clowns. What else can I add to this tank too make it more colourful and be clownfish/reef compatible?

Thank you all in advance.

A skimmer. It's not just about the nutrient export.

I’d get a skimmer and depending on what corals you want you don’t want to do too many water changes. Softies like nutrients in the water and so do many LPS corals.

Thank you! How about matching fish for clowns in this tank?

I personally like royal grammas a lot. Or the orchid (freidmans) dottyback. Either fish are great. Just can’t go both in the same tank. Lastly if you go with the gramma I’d get some kind of small wrasse (not a six line). Dottyback s do the same work as a wrasse so you wouldn’t need one if you went with him. I prefer the green corris wrasse myself. Mine was reef safe ans kept flatworms and bristle worms to a minimum.
